Mirage Camera: how to stitch videos?

2018-06-11, 9:59 AM

I noticed that if I transfer my photos directly from the camera's microSD card to my computer, they seem to be pre-stiched and carry all the necessary metadata for 180VR images. However, the videos on the microSD card are still in dual-fisheye format. Some of these videos are very large (10 GB+) and I have not been able to get them to transfer without error to my phone via bluetooth, which seems to also be how the video gets converted/stitched. Is there any other way to:

a) convert/stitch the dual 180VR fisheye footage (for example with the Samsung Gear360 this can be done with their ActionDirector software)

b) transfer (and therefore convert/stitch) footage from the camera to the phone in any method besides bluetooth.

thanks.

You can play the videos directly and you do not need to stitch them first. I found out that this works with the program "Whirligig" on Steam. But only videos in 3D, no photos. Pictures from Mirage Camera only in 2D.

If I want to view the photos in VR using my Mirage Solo, they need to be uploaded to Google Photos first, and in that case they need to be stitched.

I can't speak directly to your question but I am able to transfer both the still (vr.jpg) and video (mp4) via my windows pc from the microSD card to my Oculus Go and have them display correctly. I am unaware of any processing that is going on but I think the device or app you are using must be aware of vr180 content. I have also uploaded both the still and video content to Google Photos and though it no longer appears to be in stereo in Google Photo after downloading it to my Go through the Go browser it will display as stereo in Oculus Gallery.

You can convert them to standard equirectangular SBS videos using Google's VR180 editing app:

https://vr.google.com/vr180/apps/

Of course, it only runs on Linux and on the Mac.

Linux before Windows? Really?

It's made by Google. Everyone there either has a linux PC or a Mac.

Sadly, at this point, VR180 feels like a 20% project -- but I'm glad they are doing it at all!
