Unless you have Bluetooth headphones, then yes take it back. The port might be bad

I have the same problem. Were you able to find a solution or did you have to replace the phone?

I'm afraid the e5 Plus headphone jack is at fault.  My brand new phone has the same problem.  I was at Best Buy checking on a few things and a sales clerk pulled up reviews for this phone and they all mentioned a faulty headphone jack.  What's funny is the wiring in headphones is needed for the FM Tuner.  The FM Tuner "sees" the wiring and tunes in stations while an onscreen error messsage says headphones aren't plugged in.

Blurtooth connections work fine for audio, but you still need someting plugged in for an FM antenna.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for posting. Please make sure to have the headphone plugged fully. Try different headphones and try it to another Moto E5 Plus device, this way we can isolate the issue. If the headphone works with the other E5 Plus then the faulty is with the phone, but if the headphone will not work then the headphone's the one needs to be addressed. Otherwise, I would recommend sending the phone for a replacement. Let me know.

Best regards,

Headphones that work on other devices are not working on my new phone (Moto e5).

Re: Moto e5 plus headphone jack

I've worked in broadcasting since 1975.  I know how to diagnose equipment.  The E5 Plus headphone jack is faulty.  I've tried several different headphones and cables.  The plug can be pushed in a small amount (.010") farther but it feels like a spring is pushing it back the same amount.  When I push the headphone plug in I hear a low volume high frequency tone in the headphones.  I can also wiggle laterally (sideways) any plug that I put in the jack.  Sometimes I can get music on my headphones, but moving the phone and cable stops the headphones from working.  The few minutes they have worked I did not hear any stereo music.  It always sounds mono.  I'm testing with a set of practically new Sony earbuds.

When using the FM Tuner, that needs the headphone wiring for an antenna, something is connected enough for the FM Tuner to recieve a signal.  It's funny that an error message pops up that says "Headphones are unplugged" when they are plugged in.  As part of the message I have to choose Bluetooth speaker or loudspeaker.  When I choose loudspeaker I hear the FM Tuner playing music, even though the headphones "are unplgged".  They clearly are and acting as an antenna.

Hi TracyReynolds,

Looks like more of hardware related concern. Try isolating the software as a factor by troubleshooting the phone, otherwise, the phone needs repair.

It sounds to me like a design flaw.  There are numerous complaints about this problem on this and other websites.  It's either a design flaw or a bad batch of headphone jacks installed a a small production run.

I didn't mention it but this phone is brand new.  I've owned it for about three weeks.
