Is it my age or what?

I am a new poster here -

 

I bought a Moto e6 Plus last week and unboxed it, with this website open.

Guided by the heading on this site, (I can't see it from this page!), I set up the fingerprint log-in to "get into my phone instantly". All well and good so far - the screen lit up.

Oh dear! When I went to set it up I was asked for a pin number . . . but I didn't have a pin number!

Is it my senility (I'm 73), but I thought I was following what appeared to me to be an instruction and now appear to have a brand new phone that already I cannot use?

I have a Virgin Media SIM inserted, but no micro SD, so far.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated please!

Hi eljay376,

 

I will try my best to help you with this. The phone cannot be able to set up a fingerprint sensor lock without a secondary pass code such as PIN, password or pattern. This is a way for the phone to be accessed in case the fingerprint is not accessible. If you are not able to access the phone using the PIN then you may need to reset the phone and start over again. You might need to enter your Google account password during set up if you have registered the account in your phone.

Hello Zeke,

 

Thank you so much for your kind reply.

I had not registered a Google account on the phone as I have not been able to get beyond the log-in screen.

I shall have to take the route that you suggest I think. I have been reading up on the technique and have read that my phone will in effect be wiped.

I have not put my SD card in it, so there is just my Virgin SIM installed. Will anything happen to that so that I might have to get a new one?

I will come back here with progress, but as it's almost eight in the evening here, it's a job best undertaken with a fresh mind, I think!

Hi eljay376,

 

The SIM card should be fine when you are doing a reset since the settings of the SIM card is not saved in the phone.

Wow! I'm finally there now Zeke -after quite struggle on account of the osteoarthritis in my fingers that made all the button holding and pressing a bit of a challenge. Also, as a new user of Motorola smartphones I found the resetting wording a little ambiguous, with the irony that probably you would "get it" after having done it once, when hopefully once would be as often as you would hope to do it!

Thank you once again for "holding my hand" through this procedure. I am so grateful for your assistance.
