Re: Heating issues in Moto G4 plus

As we've posted before, most heating is normal, as phones give off heat when using power or when charging. Heating generally is not dangerous and does not impact performance. However, at higher device temperatures, performance may be reduced to avoid serious overheating. We believe the record heatwave in India has contributed to reports in that region.

While we can’t reduce the general rate of heating on the Moto G4, we are looking to address reports of reduced performance under hot conditions. We’re exploring an update to the Moto Camera app to allow longer video capture before seeing performance issues. As we learn more about timing of that update, I'll do my best to share it here.

We also have these tips on how you can help control high-heat conditions, some of which have already been suggested by community members:

  • When shooting video, go into Airplane Mode if possible, and/or turn off video stabilization.
  • Avoid Turbo charging in hot weather; use a regular charger or your PC to charge. Turbo charging creates more heat than regular charging.
  • Wait until you’re out of the heat to watch video, play games or engage in other high-power activities.
  • Shield your phone from direct sunlight.
  • Take a short break from high-power activities to let the phone cool.
  • If your phone is in a case, try using it without the case to allow quicker cooling.

(Note: this is not truly a "Solution." We mark it this way so that forum members and visitors can easily find this statement.)

Can you please open the battery app, take a screenshot, then tap the graph, take a screenshot of the second screen and upload both here?

Also, please complete your forum profile and include your phone's serial number. This is important if you would like us to help you understand what may be happening.

Also, it is perfectly normal for a phone to heat while charging, and to give off heat while it's being used. More details will be helpful - thanks!

Phone temperature depends upon many conditions. Usage, charging environment etc. Provide battery stats ss as mentioned by Senior members as well as temperature of battery and cpu temperature with help of CPU Z app.

Honestly, I don't think there's a problem.  Newer phones, with more powerful processors and functions, running more demanding apps, run warmer than older models.  For example, there's a significant difference in running temperature between my second gen Moto X and my third gen Moto X, but both phones run perfectly.  We need to know the temperature of the phone that the user thinks is too hot to see if the phone is running within operating specifications.  That's why the forum manager asked for more information from another user in this thread.

People who change phones every year will probably not be surprised by today's warmer-running phones.  People who have used the same phone for two years or more, probably will be.

Please see the forum manager's post earlier in this thread.  Also, make sure your forum profile is complete.  Then, install an app that will tell you the actual phone temperature at any given time, and post the results here, along with what the phone was doing when you took the reading.  CPU-Z will work.

And yes, warming is normal.  But we want to help you get used to the way these newer phones run.

I want to buy a g4 plus so I saw some reviews on YouTube and I came to know that with just 15 minutes of gaming temperature exceeded 45° which is not good for a gamer.

Will this problem be solved by any software update in future or not please tell as I have to buy a phone.
