Battery Drainage After Nougat Update.

2016-12-31, 8:46 AM

The battery used to provide the screen on time 6 to 7 hours on MM but since I've updated to Nougat it provides between 3 to 4 hour. No gaming done, no videos watched and the phone was on airplane mode most of the time but the battery was melting like ice cream in the summers.

I had that problem but with Marshmallow, turn on energy saver for a little time and later restart your phone, it functions for me... I think it's a bug of Android, I'm not sure ?

Hi, seems like your issue with shortened battery life is a common one reported with Nougat on multiple devices, unfortunately. Do any of these possible fixes work for you? https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/516ww2/battery_drain_on_android_70_nougat_solved/ or http://www.gottabemobile.com/2016/09/01/how-to-fix-bad-nexus-android-7-0-battery-life/

I know they're for Nexus devices but may be worth a try. You may have to adapt some of the suggestions (e.g. I think the clear cache instructions are similar, but this is the process for Moto G4 devices https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/111301/p/30,6720,9686)

Good luck!

I followed the solutions mentioned but nothing worked.
Factory reset - Done

Wipe cache partition - Done
The system is not showing the app or service consuming battery. Total consumption shown by android is about 10 %  but in actual battery consumed is 50 - 60 %.

Is there any official method to downgrade to MM without unlocking the bootloader or rooting the phone?

Is your phone actually powering off when battery stats estimate? Mine did that, but after turning it back on and leaving it a while, the battery life recalculated.

No, it's not powering off. It's draining like 1% reduction in 1.5 minutes.

That's the norm for Nougat. I don't know why people are so eager to get it... IMO 7.0 it's a failed Google attempt, 7.1 fixed some of the issues.

Try to find "netmgr_wl kernel wakelock" inside BetterBatteryStats. Previously (soak) that was the culprit, however the fix requires root, to change a line in build.prop:

persist.data.netmgrd.qos.enable=false

I suppose I'm the only one facing this issue in Moto G4 Plus since nobody raised this issue except me :(

Motorola have to fix this ASAP.
