Battery useage

2019-03-24, 15:16 PM

Searched but could not find anything. After very recent update to android 8.1 I see pretty good battery life, but notice a big draw called         " mobile network standby". Useage is 40%! Phone has data turned OFF. I rarely use mobile data except when driving. Is there any way to turn this network standby off? Battery use would be great without this useless draw.

Another question, would turning background date use off in each app be helpful for this?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

If the battery life is good I wouldn't worry. It might just be reporting incorrectly. If it's really bothering you I would backup all the data off the phone and do a Factory Reset. This will install the updated O/S clean.I do this whenever there is a Major update to make sure the phone gets cleaned out.It keeps my phones smooth and fast.

HTH :)

After factory reset no real change. mobile network standby is still the highest useage on the phone. Can't find any way to turn this off. Can anyone help?

I don't think you/we can as it's a core system app/program.Is the battery usage any better?

You could check if inside Developer Options "Mobile data always active" is activated. If yes, try disabling it.

You can reach Developer Options by going to Options -> System -> About phone -> click 7 times at "Build number".

After that you can find Developer Options menu inside the System menu.

Another idea would be to select 2G @home instead of 4G/LTE and switch to 4G only when you leave your home. 2G uses less energy compared to 3G/4G/LTE and usually the signal strenght is better which results in even less energy usage.

Weak mobile radio signals are battery killer #1.

I keep data service turned off unless traveling and using hands free or maps. This is why a don't understand why I can't stop the battery drain of the "mobile network standby" usage. For example, after charging earlier, this "standby" has used 20% of the battery

Mobile Network Standby is not only about data usage. Beeing connected to a network (GSM) costs energy, otherwise you couldn't receive voice calls. If you have a weak connection, your phone tries to reconnect quite often which results in more energy used.

In my old apartment, I lived between two cell towers and my phone hopped from one tower to the other and vice versa which ate my battery quite fast.
