Moto G4 Plus SIM card randomly disappears

2017-01-17, 21:46 PM

Had my G4 Plus for about 3 weeks.  It has started to randomly lose sight of it's SIM, several times per day.

This can happen while on the charger and when it's not.

Only a reboot gets it to find the SIM card again.

It's really not usable as a phone if I can never rely on people being able to contact me.

Is there a fix for this?

This is using the 2Degrees service in New Zealand.

I have a new SIM card without adapter.  Are there connection problems with the SIM slot?

This is the SIM in slot 1:

Hi Les_F,

May I know where did you purchase your phone? Have you tried different sim cards? Have you tried to insert both sim cards to another phone? Let us know.

Purchased from a computer/tech store (PB Tech) in Hamilton, New Zealand.

I only have the one SIM card, which was also purchased the same day.  I haven't tried swapping to other phones yet.

An interesting thing tho; I have uninstalled the most recent app that was installed around when this problem started, and it has not occurred again since, so I am hoping it will be the end of my problem.  I will confirm this in a few days if all remains good.

No, it disconnected again overnight, rebooted, then it lost sight of the SIM again while I drove to work.

Hi Les_F,

Let me know if you have tried to insert it into another phone and see if that works. Try to use a different sim card to this phone for us to know if the phone will still reads sim card.

Ok so last night the SIM deactivated and no amount of rebooting would bring it back.  I finally got access to another phone that takes that size SIM, and it couldn't recognize it either, so... back to the 2Degrees store for a replacement.  So far the new SIM has been working well,  I am hoping that my problem has been resolved at last.  Watch this space (if you give a {removed} about such things).

Hi Amal_Mathew,

Does it only happen to a specific location?

Re: Moto G4 Plus SIM card randomly disappears

Returning from my holiday in Thailand where I used a Thai simcard in slot 2, the slot was useless at home.

No Dutch sims were detected anymore.

I had noticed that the Thai sim was slightly thicker than my Dutch one so I put three layers of cellotape on the back of the Dutch simcard.

Now it works like a charm..

I guess the Moto G4 plus simcard slot pins are not bending back up as much as other phones's slots.
