Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

Not that it is not accurate, nor that it wasn't.

But you can't tell by the battery indicator and the time period how much battery you used.

If you have your phone on, not charging, assume you have 93% (you don't know if 93.4 or 92.9) then you use it and it drops to 90%.

Charge it to 93% and use it and it may go to 92%.

One thing that happens is that after you remove it from the charger the first % seems to be slower than when you were not charging.

Another tricky thing is that you never know when background apps have launched its update/refresh/sync processes and sometimes they have a big impact on battery life, and that can increase a lot if you are near/far WiFi or cell antena.

It is too short to notice if it did change or not.

Another thing that "I fëel" changed is that you plug it in, it gets to 100%, remove it from charger, commute without doing something and you get to work with 100%, even if you checked your messages. Nougat quickly drops to 98%, but it doesn't mean that at the end of the day you end up with the same % of battery as before.

XT1644 Nougat has dropped in the US. I got it last night here in Washington DC.

It made my phone kinda laggy for a bit, so I switched back to stock animation speeds in nova, then let it cool down overnight. Works pretty nicely now.

Only real complaint is the completely arbitrary battery reading. Honestly, it doesn't tell me anything real when its at 88% with only screen using 3% and nothing else reported.

Happy to have nougat at last, but that wait time is unforgiveable. Never buying Lemoto ever again. But thanks for the update, though.

Lenovo has no offical OS support policy for devices that I am aware of.  However for the G4s they did mobile event promotion with the inducement that the G4 would receive Android N and O.  Legally they might be compelled to buy back a lot of G4s long after the G4s are worth anything as refurbs if they fail to deliver O for the G4s.  The path of least risk for them will be to deliver O, but likely v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y as they did with the US G4 Plus N roll-out.  The poor G4 standards and G4 Plays still don't have Nougat.  Especially silly and arbitrary in the G4 standard's case since the hardware is nearly identical (SoC, screen, etc.).

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

Hi, I received yesterday the update notification (Moto G4 XT1625 RETUS). I download the update, but when I reboot the phone the first time it stays in the initial logo (white background with the word "Moto") without doing anything else. I turn it off to boot the phone normally, the phone reboots to apply the changes, appears the Android animation trying to apply the changes and then an error (the same Android robot with a red symbol). The phone restarts and says that the update could not be applied.

So I've tried it several times without success, and I do not know if it's because I have the encrypted my phone. I will try to format my phone and do a clean installation tonight.

It is my first phone with Android and I feel somewhat frustrated. I come from Windows Phone / Windows Mobile and I never had problems like this, even upgrading my old Microsoft Lumia 535 from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile.

Does anyone else suffer for this? Also with the burning screen?

Greetings.

Try removing the SD card and see if that helps

Thanks I'll try. My fear is that the microSD is formatted entirely with the system (the microSD is unrecognizable if I try to read in another device) and I do not know if switching from Marshmallow to Nougat can affect something.

If the phone gets reset, the private key used to encrypt the SD card would be lost, and the card would be unreadable. This is true under any conditions.

Although upgrades usually go fine, you should always plan for the worst and backup your data regardless of if the card is internal or external format.

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

Thank you very much, I was able to update my Moto G4. Just in case, I transferred all my content from the microSD to the phone, formatted the microSD (so that it was free in case of an emergency), I removed it from the phone, I deleted the cache from the boot, applied the system update and then the Process of transferring the content back to the microSD.

Nougat itself is more of the same (I expected new icons and centralized notifications as in Windows Mobile), but at least the Find my Phone service works (previously, the application was closed when I tried to ring the phone remotely).
