Hi yojason,

No, I just formatted the microSD (in case of emergency, my Moto G4 is also encrypted) and I removed it from the phone. I backed up all the contents of the microSD and transferred the content to the phone temporarily.

After all that, I had to re-download the content of the games I have in the phone (Asphalt 8, Asphalt Xtreme, etc.).

Another thing, I do not know how to change the password to the encryption of the phone :(

I did it for security, as mentioned by AlphaDog, "If the phone gets reset, the private key used to encrypt the SD card would be lost, and the card would be unreadable", so for me to be more secure I formatted the microSD before to apply the update.

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

Hello all. So I have a G4 plus and I have received the OTA update. I tried several times to download it and install it but I get an error message after it restarts about 7 min into the install and it does not update. I tried removing the SD card and wiping the cache but same thing. It is encrypted. Anyone have any advise or solution on this ?

Thanks in advance

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

FYI: I have a 32GB external micro SD plugged into the add-on slot. And I have encrypted my 32GB G4 phone, which I now can open only with a numbered password/pin sequence. I think (?) that I did NOT encrypt the external SD card during the encryption process. As I recall, I was warned during the encryption that the external SD card would not be usable elsewhere if I encrypted it. So, since it contains only movies, music & podcast, I didn't encrypt it.

Here's the point: When my download of Nougat & subsequent upgrade happened, it was flawless -- fully automated and didn't seem to disturb anything. Just made a few improvements, as far as I can tell. (And as I mentioned earlier, I bought the G4 at Costco last November, unlocked, then added a TracFone SIM card & all has been well ever since.

Unlike some of the folks who are complaining about Lenovo & this phone, we (my wife & I) love these things and would buy them again in a heartbeat! They are like tiny, powerful tablets! My frame of reference is my other mobile device, which is a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 inch Tablet running a Logitech Bluetooth keyboad/case. It has all but replaced my Dell Laptop! But it's been getting ignored because my Moto G4 is so powerful and easy to use. And finally, for what it's worth, I highly recommend SwiftKey and use it on all my portable devices  :-)

You don't have to format the card first.  Even if the card is unreadable due to loss of key, it can still be formatted.

Motorola has made no mention this. I saw the rumor someone started too. But the truth is that only motorola knows.

I doubt that any support person really has this information to share.  So don't believe everything you read.

It certainly is possible, but no one knows. I say a 50/50 chance. I could be wrong.
