Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

Ditto here in the US (G4 Plus).  March 1, 2017, security update.  A pleasant surprise given (1) how slow past security updates have been and (2) it is inconsistent with Lenovo's earlier public statements on security updates suggesting they would not be frequent or timely and instead be bundled with OS updates.

Haven't booted up my G4 Play recently and haven't been following this forum as closely as I was before 7.0 shipped for the G4 Plus.  Are we still looking at June for the G4 Play Nougat update?

Yep. It was earlier confirmed for June, but I've asked and Motorola answered that it still has a pending partnership with Google. I don't fully understand what they meant.

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4 - Security Update Caused Phone to die

2017-05-07, 14:17 PM

I received the Android 7.0 upgrade OTA a couple of months ago.  On 5/5/2017, I received an OTA security update.  Within an hour of that upgrade being installed, my Moto G4 Plus got very, very hot and the cellular radio burned out.   The phone  sees the SIM card but has shows service disconnected and no service on any frequency.  The SIM card works in a different phone.

This is he second time this has happened to this phone.  Has anyone else had issues with the phone overheating and the cellular radio going out?  I'm aware of the "loose SIM card slot issue" but that is not the case here.

My Wifi keeps working but I have no data or voice access on the cellular bands.  I'm very disappointed that my phone has had to be sent back for repairs twice in six months.  I view this as some type of manufacturer defect either in my particular phone or in the whole product line.

Seems like at Lenovo the left hand doesn't know at all what the right hand does. :)

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4 - Security Update Caused Phone to die

I'm just guessing.

It had to really overheat. It had to be a really bad coincidence that all of the phone is intact but it burned the Antenna or something about the radio in the chip.

Maybe the OTA contained a Modem update and it killed the radio? or maybe the settings are incompatible?

You've said that happened to you already. How was it solved before?

If I were in your situation (where the phone is mostly useless) I'd do a backup and a Cache/Data Wipe and Factory Reset.

If nothing works, I'll flash it again with whatever you had before.

Obviously being in the US with so much more access to tech support (physically) I'll try that before or after flashing.
