Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

2018-01-11, 19:00 PM

I have and I'm not the only one in the UK with the same issue.

Basically technical support cannot help at Motorola and they can't escelate it either to someone who can. I then got told to contact my mobile phone provider, who then referred me back to Motorola, who then referred me back to my mobile phone provider, etc

Unfortunately when it comes to software it's a bit of a grey issue in the UK.

I solved my lack of updates by using captured OTA updates and manually updating through the recovery menu on the bootloader.

I am now on the 1st December patch.

I don't think Lenovo know how damaging it is in these days of forums to find that some folk are getting OTA updates and you are not, especially security related ones

Did anyone offer service to solve your issue? If a reset doesn't fix it, and within warranty, and there are updates for your phone, then you should have be given the option to get it serviced.

This should be the same process as in other countries

Would you please update your profile with the serial/IMEI/MEID number of your phone? Is it okay if we look at your apps? This will help us investigate. Make sure that your Motorola Privacy is enabled.>Update your profile here

How does one capture the updates? I have an XT1622 bought from Amazon UK that hasn't had any security patches. Running 1st May, 2016.

Ask on on other forums. None of that can be discussed here and will be edited if discussed further.

Been through all that twice. As part of my work I need a secure phone.

Was forced to go down the manual patching route to get updates due to continually going around in circles getting absolutely nowhere.

I repeat I am not the only one not getting ota updates in the UK.

Technical support was completely useless, was hindered because they can't escelate issues, was working off a script & couldn't tell me why I was not getting ota updates.

I will be getting a new phone this year, but not a Motorola/Lenovo, given my own experience. A lot of others think the same way if your forums are to be believed

Hello Billyfester

coming back to your comment of the January 11th at 11h00.

Your comment about your problem about available updates, but not received automatically received by your phone shows, that sometimes OTA download does not work automatically as it should.

After capturing an OTA update and .... you are now in a special situation, which I for most of members of this forum would not do, meaning passing by a specific update procedure using the bootloader update menu.

Nevertheles your situation and your comment attracted attention of Moto Sr Moderator "AlphaDog" and Senior MotoAgent "Moto_Daisy" and you got an offer to help.

My case might help others or this forum:

I have had in december 2017 a similar problem when I detected that for 2 month an update was available (information found on a motorola-website) for my G4Play xt1602 (SW-Channel "reteu") but not offered to me, meaning not automatically installed.

I sent a message about my situation and got replies and help from a Moto moderator/agent.

24 hours after (I understood where exactly and how to fill in the right way my serial/IMEI/MEID number in my profile) the september update was offered automatically as OTA and I installed it without problems.

Hope this helps to others  F99
