Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

No Nougat for G4 Play in the UK for me either. Motorola said I had to wait, but since I've waited over a year, I've had enough - my G4 Play has become extremely laggy too and WiFi keeps switching itself off randomly.

I've now bought Amazon's Dual SIM Sony Xperia XA1 to replace it, since the price dropped by £30 this week, and so far so good. I have Nougat on February 2018 patch level, with Oreo rolling out any day now (not deja vu, I hope :smileyindifferent:). Once I've finished setting it up, the G4 Play is going back to Amazon for a refund.

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

Just saw on Reddit that Verizon Moto G4 play just got a March security patch. Not only did Verizon update to Nougat in the US but they have pushed out 2 security patches while those of us on retus channel (unlocked version) have gotten nothing.  even the Verizon version of the Moto E4 got a security update while the retail version got nothing

Seems like the only way to get updates on a Moto is for it to be a carrier version. Lenovo had no excuse as to why they can give Verizon the updates but not bother to push it to the customers who purchased through their website and other authorized retailers. They really have no shame. No Moto or Lenovo products for me ever again

I registered just to thank lenovo for failing to update their carrier free device. What a great way to support your customers. No more Motorola / lenovo for me.

Got a 1 Feb 2018 security update yesterday on my G4 on the RETEU software channel. But seeing that it remains on Android 7.0, this will be my last Moto. iPhone I will never consider but Nokia seems the future for me.as they have commtted to pure Android and they are doing what Motorola used to do. Be customer friendly and guarantee the next Android version upgrades.

How would you like to get every OS update, as long as your phones hardware is compatable with the update?  That means if you bought a phone in 2016, now its 2018, you would get all the updates, not just 1 or 2 like android.  This is how Apple treats its customers, thats why I switched to iPhone.

Yes, I like the sound of my phone being made intentionally slower as each update comes :smileyfrustrated:

If money is no object to you, by all means, get your iPhone. My G4 was less than a quarter of the price of what an iPhone at the time would have cost me, so there is no comparison. As I stated before, the G4 was the best of the rest at the time. I am not prepared to pay for a status symbol, whether it's a top notch Apple or Android device.

As for Apple, they are supposedly guaranteed not to go obsolete in terms of support for 5 years, which is great but as we have seen, the slow downs whether intentional or not, do occur.

With Nokia now intending to follow the example set by the original Motorola brand, it looks like they will do a 2 generation support in terms of OS which would be approximately 3 years of support. At a quarter of the price where I live, compared to iPhone, that will do just nicely.

Here is my tongue in cheek pic

Actually the cash price of the iPhone SE 32gb is $349 - it is maybe $10 or $20 off at a retailer.  It is only cheaper if you buy on contract or if you buy a refurb or replacement from an online seller.

My wife and daughter have them and had for years, but the last few updates and lack of some custom features has them looking at my Motorola phones in a new light.
