If you mean the Jan 1st date... technically it is correct. There was no patch from Google until Jan 5, and Moto could have added other patches that did come out before google released the Jan 5 update.

So the phone could have an android security date of December but some extra patches that came out between December 1 and Jan 1.

at least it fixed the notification volume and some lags i had in the past, but still, it should be corrected to December 1st 2016 because as you said "patches that came out between Dec 1 and Jan 1" which TECHNICALLY means the WHOLE month of December, which is a Decmeber patch of course

I think it's just how Motorola likes deceiving customers, just like they promised to roll out Moto G4 before end of Q4 2016. Technically true... technically.

I am speculating.  motorola will have to clarify.

But if Google didnt roll out the official patch until Jan 5, then Moto's jan 1 date indicates this is not the full Google android January patch. It cant be. So i think Moto patched what they could and left the date as December.

For a group that complains and complains, even a nice bug fix update and you still complain.  Motorola has clearly stated they are not going to match Googles schedule of security patches.

im not complaining, im grateful that it fixed some bugs i had since i got Nougat but i didnt come here to cry about them, i just knew the stuff you told me about, the basic users will swarm in complaining more about it sooner or later

I think you will find 2017 consumers are not going to tolerate lazy oems and as more and more learn the truth they will speak with their wallets.
One of The main reasons why google released the pixel even they are sick of the fragmentation caused by oems.

Ok, so  How mnay phones would have to get the update for it to be more then "technically" true? 50% globally? 90%? What if the usa was last and 95% has the update? If the USA was first, but all others were still waiting, would Motorola still be deceiving customers?

What's the real reason why they do not roll out the update globally? Do you really think it's a server bandwidth issue in 2017 lol

And who would be naive enough to think that every single variant of the Moto G4 series phone in every region gets the same file? Clearly someone who has no clue as to what is actually involved in the strategy of a major OS update.

By the way, Samsung, with many times the resources of Motorola, just stopped the Nougat update to the S7 and S7 Edge (which only began Jan 12) due to bugs that showed up after the first batch of consumers updated. Good thing they had the common sense to distribute in phases.

Second naive assumption posted in this thread: that Google made its own phone so customers could get updates sooner and in some purer form. Oh, please! Forbes Magazine published an analysis last fall... first, the phone is entirely manufactured by HTC in Taiwan.  Google is dropping its more affordable Nexus line in favor of much more expensive device like the Pixel which is comparable in cost to S7 or iPhone 7. They aren't doing all this for us, the consumers, but to pad the bottom line and put their logo on a phone. As for purity, guess what? Verizon has already gotten into its bloatware act, and pre-installed My Verizon, VZ Messages, and Go90 (their new video content enterprise). In fact, the Pixel is not as bloatware free as my Nexus 6 (made by Motorola).

If you buy a Pixel straight from Google it don't have all that bloatware that Verizon and AT&T and such have either. I have a G4 Amazon and it doesnt have any bloatware since i removed it all. I'm probably looking at mid summer before i see Nougat on my XT1625 G4 by then the phone will be a year old.
