Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

One of the positive features that G4 Play has is the user replaceable battery so when it starts to degrade buy a replacement battery and slap it in. Reading other threads about GPS issues maybe no 7.1.1 update is a blessing and maybe Lenovo are holding fire on the os upgrades until the GPS thing is sorted (if that were the case you would like to thing one of the Moto guys would keep us informed on these forums). Normally I would replace a phone every 3 years or so, but another one of the factors for me choosing this model was the promised Nougat update mentioned in the Motorola blog over 18 months ago. This is my second Moto G phono (and the first one under the Lenovo brand) and really would think twice about buying that brand again and/or recommending it to anyone.

I had this feeling that finding a spare would be hard (even before I bought the phone), and these threads don't inspire much confidence in getting a genuine replacement. Hope people never need one.

Maybe not to 7.1.1 but Nougat was promised for G4 Play (4th Gen) on a post Motorola blog post dated 4th October 2016- that's over 18 months ago. They were meant to be starting with the Moto G 4th Gen phones but here we are still stuck on version of Android installed at time of manufacture :( https://blog.motorola.com/2016/10/04/n-is-for-nougat-android-7-0-is-coming-to-your-favorite-moto-phones/ and no security updates since February 2017 putting users at risk of being infected or hacked.

It's not of any help but we recvd an August 2017 update (xt-1607).

I do find it a bit interesting that Lenovo employees got onto the threads to say that roll out for 7.x was complete and if you hadn't gotten it to contact them and yet no one other than Verizon customers have reported receiving 7.x for G4 Play.

This seems a bit confusing unless it's a subtle way of saying 7 ainta coming to your Play :)

That was actually for the normal G4. And if you gave the details they pushed the nougat update to you. The G4 is the only version confirmed to have nougat. G4 play is waiting partner support

My carrier doesn't provide upgrades. So there is no "partner support"to wait for. Motorola needs to update the USA customers.

So if they pushed an update and it didn't work with your provider you would be happy to change? This is what happened to some of the soak testers in india and they were not to happy. The nougat update has improved my 4g reception with my carrier and less switching but some others report the opposite.

If Motorola updated my phone, it has no effect on my carrier My carrier does not add anything to the phone before they sell it. So there is no compatability issues.

No big deal though.  My carrier has the Moto G5 Plus for $200.00.  Thinking of upgrading myself with a new phone.

Don't do it. You will be waiting for Oreo just like you are waiting for Nougat now . Spend $70 more and buy the new Nokia 6.1 on Amazon or Walmart.

Yep, go ahead and buy another Lenovo, so you can show them that no matter what bad they do, you'll stick with them. Way to go, sir!
