I'm on the retus channel with T-Mobile as my carrier and did the update on 2 phones and ran into some issues.  The first one is that I couldn't send MMS messages after the update, I had to recreate my APN settings manually on both phones.  There were some minor differences in the APN details on T-Mobile's site from the default one, but recreating it fixed the issue.

The second issue I ran into is worse, when placing calls now the screen sometimes turns off on it's own even though I'm not holding the phone to my ear for the proximity sensor to kick in.  It won't turn back on with the power button and doesn't come back on until the call ends.  It doesn't happen on all calls, but appears to be a random issue.  There is a thread here in the forums about this issue, if I had known about it before the update I wouldn't have done it and stayed on Marshmallow.

If anyone is waiting for the update, be aware that this issue is out there and decide for yourself if you want to take the risk to update or not.  The grass is not always greener on the other side!

I updated my G4 Play a few weeks ago and have had neither of those problems.  My carrier is Tracfone.

My G4 used to do this on Marshmallow. Only way to get it back was to run hand over proximity sensor or lock then unlock the phone.

I don't think this is the same issue since once the screen goes off, the power button does not turn it back on at all and it doesn't turn on until the call ends.  So there is no way to lock or unlock the phone when this happens.

Happy  to report that my unlocked Vodafone (now on BT mobiile) Moto G4 Play was offered the 7.1.1 upgrade last weekend. Upgraded it last night and no issues to report (keeping fingers crossed).  Battery OK, GPS OK and smooth as 6.0.1  when using.

I cleared the system cache and normal cache prior to letting it download and install.

The update that I was offered was NPI26.48-43

The update upgrades the phone to 7.1.1 and security patch level 1st April 2018

Hope this info might help other UK users of the Moto G4 Play

Regards

Peter

I am on the amazon g4 Play and I just received the June update last night.  I wonder if the removal of the ad feature was done so that they could facilitate the updates easier.  Basically, just take the original Play ROM and add a few amazon apps to it and push it out.  Maybe THAT is what took so long.  Although I think it would be easier for them to just rebrand them to the main release channel since Amazon has stopped selling lenovo branded ad phones, but that's just me.

Hi I'm a new user here.  I just acquired this Moto G4 Play used.  The person I obtained it from said that is was last updated during a Moto/Lenovo SOAK test for RETUS in the United States.  He said the SOAK test started last September 2017.  During the SOAK test he said the phone was updated to 7.1.1 and the September 2017 security patch level.  He was very frustrated with the slow Lenovo updates and lack of communication.  To me the September 2017 patch level appears to be way out of date.  In reading this forum it appears some G4 Play owners are at the June 2018 patch level.

Here is my question:  Is the 7.1.1 software up to date?  By that question I mean is the Build Number NPI26.48-30 the current released build number or is this phone stuck on a pre release SOAK test software?

“Your versions are outdated”

Thanks for posting the screen shot for the final released version of 7.1.1 for the G4 Play.  You are indeed correct about my version of 7.1.1 being outdated.  I had no idea that EVERYTHING about my release was outdated.  It appears that the SOAK testers phones have been forgotten and are not going to be receiving the final production rollout of 7.1.1.  Lenovo/Motorola should have handled this update better than they did.  Just reading back through this thread proves the update was poorly handled over a very long period of time.
