My G4 2016 is like 6 months old still on the September security update, the battery is failing and it has hardware problems and im not waiting 2 to 6 weeks to get it repaired, so it's by by Moto...Lenovo is doing a great dishonor to motorola phones.

Yes will be my last venture with Motorola to. I'm stuck on July 2016 security patch. Had one update out if the box when purchased back in August 2016. Also starting to notice little glitches such as losing connection to WiFi. August 2017 will be bye bye Moto and back to iPhone

Transpires his phone is retapac software channel rather than retgb. Probably explains it.

Still pretty fed up with this behaviour from Lenovo/Motorola. No security patches since July 2016 and still no sign of Android 7. I too have bought multiple Moto G (Gens 1, 2 & 4) and a Moto X Play and much as I like the design and uncluttered OS I've just about had enough of this.

The RET is region/carrier specific. Mine is RETEU on both the G4 play and Z play

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

I'm getting quite disappointed with Lenovo/Motorola phones (at least with the G series)... My wife and I both have a Moto G4 XT1622 phone each. Both are carrier independent / SIM free, one bought from Tesco, other from Amazon. Neither of them have the Nougat update (we live in the UK).

But what really pisses me off is the LACK OF SECURITY PATCHES! Both phones have Android secuirty patch level 1 July 2016. That is OLD! (Even my Lenovo Tab 3 megacheap 8" tablet has October 2016 patch level.) Most of my colleagues with Samsung, Sony etc phones have December 2016 patch level or even received the Nougat update already...

If you are in Europe or USA - what patch level do you have? (Also, does anybody NOT in India/Brasil/Canada have the official Nougat automatic update? (i.e. not some manually updated system from manually downloaded soak test system etc.))

>If you are in Europe or USA - what patch level do you have?<

I'm in the UK and my entirely stock XT1622 still has the July 2016 patch. Two other phones in the household (Samsung and Sony) have December 2016 patches, as do those of several colleagues with non-Lenovo devices.

It's difficult to conceive of a rational reason for Lenovo's inaction in this area. It's also irritating (and revealing) that they don't think enough of their customers to provide an explanation.

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

I actually had a web chat with their UK help desk today. They don't have any kind of timeframe whatsoever for the update release. They didn't even confirm that Moto G4 actually will get the Nougat update at all...

We bought Moto G4's specifically because we heard that Motorola/Lenovo is good and quick with updates. Well, apparently not anymore. If I knew this, we could have bought Xiaomi phones. More spec and performance for the money...
