Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

2017-02-01, 21:00 PM

If you are in Europe or USA - what patch level do you have? (Also, does anybody NOT in India/Brasil/Canada have the official Nougat automatic update? (i.e. not some manually updated system from manually downloaded soak test system etc.))

Same patch date as you. I'm in the UK and have the G4+ purchased SIM free direct.

Joined this forum a while ago and judging by the posts I reckon that the Indian market is some huge testing ground for Lenovo to get the European and US OTA and probably the RotW update right lol!

Still waiting for a solution to the notification sound level problem and I certainly don't want the OTA update if it comes with the bugs the Indian market reports whether they were introduced by Lenovo or the producers of Nougat.

I agree with you about the security updates. My old Moto G2 used to get regular updates before Lenovo.

Pretty shabby customer support by Lenovo.

I actually had a web chat with their UK help desk today. They don't have any kind of timeframe whatsoever for the update release. They didn't even confirm that Moto G4 actually will get the Nougat update at all...

We bought Moto G4's specifically because we heard that Motorola/Lenovo is good and quick with updates. Well, apparently not anymore. If I knew this, we could have bought Xiaomi phones. More spec and performance for the money...

Did the UK support agent have any answers as to why the G4 models aren't getting the security updates?

Yes, that's true, if I Google up "Moto G4 Nougat", there are scaringly many problems coming up in the results. Maybe it takes them longer than anticipated to fix all the bugs. But what about security patches? How is that almost all main manufacturers were already able to roll out the December or at least the October level, BUT Motorola/Lenovo...

Nope. He avoided answering that question altogether.

I spoke to Moto UK back on 19/1/2017 and they told me that they had the source code and are just waiting to provide a release date

How can a vendor in this day and age ignore security so blatantly? It's critical these updates are provided at least once a month these days,  if a user decides not to apply it so be it but if it leads to a situation where a number of Motorola phones get compromised due to inaction on Lenovo part then I will be joining the masses seeking an explanation and/or compensation

I'll be following you very soon. Either that or I'll opt for a Cyanogen mod build. In this day and age no security updates is pretty unforgivable. This will undoubtedly be my final Moto phone which is a shame after 8yrs. Without a doubt I wouldn't buy a Lenovo.

I would like to congratulate lenovo on alienating customers and ruining what was once a highly regarded product. Good luck with the G5 range!
