Fully agree with the post above. Nokia seem to understand what customers want. Lenovo don't. You can tell they don't because we've had no official response to our queries over the past several pages.

Even my Moto G 3rd gen has an October 2016 patch level. Why no patches for the G4 since July??

I will be honest, I did go on live chat today to see if I could get any info out of them. As soon as 'update' was mentioned, the automated responses filtered through. same responses I got 6 weeks back. Not interested.

Doesn't look like it. Poster said it appeared then vanished.

Anyway, decision made. Nokia 6 for me. Like my current phone but includes NFC. Winner.

I checked my phone now and it says "Your device's software is up to date" . Yeah right.

No point blaming Motorola, as it does not exist any more. Lenovo ? I wonder if they understand people are prepared to go with other options coming out of the MWC.. Maybe not

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

In principle and in everyday use the Gen4 is a great phone, but it's time to move on.
My Gen2 has a later update than my Gen4 and the Gen2 went from early kitkat to 4.4.4. then to 5 and is also on 6.0.1, and that was in a matter of two years.
This phone has not had a single update since I bought it last year August. My biggest fear was exactly that the take over will result in an eventual deterioration of service.
This has now happened and the once proud Motorola name is just another name that will be abused for as long as possible and for as much profit as possible. Once our disappointments become visible, it matters no more, they made their money and just move on with another high turn over product under another name.
Companies like Apple, Sony, LG and some others have their own products and reputation to protect. Once you buy a company like Lenovo did with Motorola, and you continue to use the original name, the service image remains that of Motorola for the public at large, that probably being the reason that they don't really seem to care too much.
On the other hand, I also don't wish to be handed a half baked update that creates more problems than solutions. In that case however a public statement is better than no statement at all except the empty promise of Q4 2016 Nougat roadmap. Shame on Lenovo for really messing this one up. Still I thank Motorola for the hardware that was still designed by them and for the support they provided when it was their's. May Trump make not only American great again, but perhaps Motorola too :)

Yeah, G4 is great, and it would be almost perfect for me if:
- Had regular security patches / updates
- Had 32GB storage (yeah, I know, I should have bought the Plus version)
- Had a somewhat bigger removable battery
- Had compass
G5 is disappointing, it seems the regular has 5" screen and the Plus has 5.2", both are too small for me.

Everybody will be back here in a year with their G5, wondering why it didn't get Android Oreo! :smileywink:
