Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

I see both sides of this discussion but there has to be a middle ground. Nothing isn't acceptable.

Either way it seems certain that Lenovo are not a custodian for Motorola that exhibit the traits I want to see in a technology company so it's curtains to Moto for me after 7yrs and as many handsets. Disappointed doesn't cover it.

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

The rub is the X, Z and even the E (which isn't getting Nougat) models have all been getting updates or sorts. The Z getting the most, likely due to being the flagship range.

But the G4 has had nothing.

As for the repeated claims none of the exploits have been exploited, and need root I'd strongly suggest you read the Android update logs AlphaDog.

There are around 10 which involve malformed SMS and MMS messages for starters which can give full phone access WITHOUT ROOT.

There are others which also don't need root and affect all Android installs. I'm perplexed how you claimed earlier Motorola is better protected. Please explain.

If Google have labeled these exploits as highly serious, and every other manufacturer has been responsible in pumping out updates, and even Motorola have been issuing updates to other models; why isn't Motorola with the G4 range?

Customers have every right to be angry. The old saying stands. "A happy customer will tell 2 others, an unhappy customer will tell everyone and anyone"

Lenovo need to get a grip, as they don't just sell phones. People will simply tell others to avoid anything linked with Lenovo.

Instead of taking all the flack yourself AlphaDog, you need to pass this on to the Motorola staff lurking in the moderation area.

Alpha dog either way in the world of customer service, it's gonna get volitial. As with all companies, communication goes a long way and is a lot better than a blog with no news, an update page that is useless and there's nothing worse than copy and paste/automated responses. Provide a service like that and people will take custom elsewhere. Keeping people updated will please more customers than anything. Just update the blog for each area what stage such things updates are at, no need to give an ETA of when it's due, if people can see progress is being made, I personally think it'll cause less tension from customers

OK, so let's say your approach is followed, and  that Moto can't report the reason for the delay due to some legal obligation... they can't say anything. how do you update a blog with that information?

I work wth a lot of phone users (outside the forums)... the most vocal and often technical are here on these forums but 99% of the people i see in the course of a month have no clue about updates (iphone and android users) - they even put off updates when they get the notification.

I think most customers don't care unless there is some bug stopping them from doing something. And even then, most that i know just work around it.

Right guys I'm going to duck out of this conversation. It's a shame that we've not had an official word on the updates and Nougat itself, so I am forced with moving to Lineage OS for the time being which is something I genuinely wanted to avoid. I will move to a competitor's product in the coming months and unfortunately have decided not to return to another Motorola or Lenovo branded product.

Cheers for the conversation along the way. All the best everyone.

I am not saying it could not be better.

But it has been this way for years.

Every time a major update comes out, we have a long thread of unhappy people that their phone wasn't first... you think this thread is bad... visit the Z or X threads when the G gets update first.... talk about class warfare... throwing around the word flagship like they should be first because they paid more.

I did say no need to give an ETA and in my experience, 99% of customers are happy to see an update, even if it isn't positive. I've dealt with customers now for the last 19 years and I'll say it again communication goes a long way.

And so what is supposed to be said if there is no news to report?

"Thanks for waiting, we can't say any more at this time"

I don't think this crowd would think any more of that message. But i could be wrong.

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/android-7-what-we-want-to-see-1311290

In the section about Moto updates, it explains what happened. A tweet or something, also I have seen on other articles that android O is mentioned in promotional material by Motorola concerning the Moto G4.

It's ridiculous that we don't have a release date, even if it's late at least I know when to expect it.
