Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

Alpha dog what I mean by updates maybe sort of a step by step process as to what is going on behind the scenes ie blogs on how techs are working on things such as updated security patches in different areas, such as a step by step guide as to what's going on behind the scenes, if customers see progress is being made and are able to read up what goes on behind the scenes, maybe they'll understand more

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

My colleague received the Nougat update for his Samsung phone yesterday. And Samsung is probably using one of the most heavily modded Android systems you can find - while Moto G4 is almost stock Android. I just can't understand what on earth takes THIS long. Except, of course, if the whole Motorola/Lenovo smartphones software development team is less than half a dozen people... Or if the Moto G4 update project was put on hold becuse of the "more important" projects, like bringing out G5 and the new tablets etc.

What about Android 7.1? Will Moto G4 receive that this year at all?

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

So far the Nougat releases from Lenovo for the G4 series has been soak tests ( am I correct ?) Are there any differences in the soak tests builds and the regular builds ? So if they are same, then would it be that complicated to release it publically with a procedure to update for whoever like to do it ? The only downside would be future updates may be impacted ( but looking at what has happend so far with G4 updates (ie, none), would that be a serious issue at all ? I am not sure I understand the complexity in this unless someone can enlighten me.

I wouldn't risk upgrading to a non-final test version... If you google "problem after Nougat upgrade" you will find lots of problems for various phones including bad battery drain etc.

Ok agreed, so why does Lenovo keep pushing test builds to consumers in different markets since last year ? Brazil, India, and now Europe ? They have had same complaints since last year and still keep pushing it out to new markets to find out what ?

Good job Lenovo. I, like many other customers, will no longer be purchasing so-called Motorola products. You've ruined the brand name and other products associated with it (eg IBM).

Your upcoming G5 doesn't interest me one bit; a smaller screen and basic specs matching my g4 plus are no incentive if the OS support will be as poor.

And the breaking point is the Nougat update you started teasing toward last October of so. This BROKEN PROMISE factored into many of the g4 purchases last year.

I believe I'm in the majority when I say I'd prefer an update with some bugs than NO UPDATE AT ALL!

You are likely losing tens of future customers each hour, if not many more. But you've definitely lost me as one. Whoever in particular dropped the ball here is insignificant. Lenovo dropped the ball collectively.

As of today, here in Italy, even the hugely modded Samsung S7 and Edge are receiving Nougat - with 7.1 already admitted and assured

And still, with a G4 Plus and STOCK Android, I'm stuck on July Patches and no update in sight

I mean, it's easier and faster to completely mod a SO and release it - than releasing a STOCK version of the same

This genuinely baffle me

As I said - no more Lenovo for me, my family and friend - I'm soon gonna move to a Nokia 5 or 6

If you want updates then buy the new Moto G5.

Dear Deagle, if you want the illusion of updates - like it happened with the G4 and G4 Plus, promised until Android O, official sources - buy the G5

If you seriously want updates - like me - buy another Brand, surely not Motorola :)
