How bout no. You think you're going to get updates by purchasing the G5? You might be getting N but that's probably as far as the "updates" are going by purchasing a Motorola device.

Hi Deagle: The Moto G4 is a 5.5" phone. Moto G5 is 5.0" and even G5 Plus is only 5.2". That would be a step backwards for me, I need the large display.

@deagle great idea :smileyfrustrated:  Let's all reward a company that doesn't look after its customers by buying another phone from them.  I think not.

This is one of the most idiotic statements I've read on this thread.

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

My G4 is a great phone for the money I paid. The Blurtooth issue we found a workaround and Lenovo still hasn't addressed that. The updates are a mystery and no one is prpared to commit it seems.

I suspect their ambitions exceeded their capabilities in terms of technical solutions with Nougat now that the Moto name is exactly that, just a name, which is a pity.

A company that just keeps quiet is no comfort.

Realistically, those that do have it ended up with battery drain issues amongst other things. Thus, I rather wait until they sorted their issue before running into the same problems. If that is the case however, once again, just communicate and tell your customers what is holding up the marketed advantage of this phone, i.e. pure Android and regular upgrades.

My Gen 2 was supplied with 3 Android versions over two years, thank you Motorola.

So the Gen 4 was the obvious choice based on experience although I was hesitant when the Lenovo take-over became known.

Now the reality has hit home. Still love the phone and I feel sorry for the Moderators that have to fence and defend when in such a situation where each one of us is actually starting to bash the company about an otherwise great phone.

The current OS works well and I shall be patient, have no choice, but my money next year will probably go to a competitor that has an equal product with minimal bloatware.

If this is part of the roadmap to kill off the Moto brand, it is succeeding and it would be sad if that's the case. The eternal optimist in me says that they may still make good on this. Realistically though, this kind of service grades them into mediocrity instead of being tops in this market space as they used to be.

Empty promises are a sure way of loosing the customer base. Just a communique about the progress would make all the difference.

I agree 100%. Some form of regular, useful info from Lenovo, ie, responsible customer service, would really help. The phone is very good for the price, but the failed promise of the update makes any flaws all the more glaring.

Re: Nougat update news for ALL G4

Not me man.  I have the G4 Play and G4 Plus.  I bought an advertising free G4 Play for $120 as I needed a smaller phone to fit in the center cubby in my VW to run Android Auto.  I find the G4 Plus to be just a little too big and the G4 Play just a little too small.  The one exception is when I travel (as I am doing now) I take the G4 Plus as it's better for watching movies in flight.

5.2" sounds perfect and the boost in pixel count at the same resolution as the G4 Plus should be a modest improvement in screen quality.  By the numbers the G5 Plus looks a bit like a Z Play reskin without the mods interface hardware.  I suspect the battery life will be outstanding as the chip for the G5 plus is built on the next smaller node.

I'm potentially interested, but Moto is going to have to deliver on the promised updates for the G4s through "O" (much less overdue "N") before it sees me buying or recommending a G5.  If Google intros a small cheap plastic Pixel in the meantime, it will be Game Over for the G line I suspect.  It'll be interesting to see if Lenovo can shake its last gen "PC commodity hardware" menatlity and DNA and survive in the moble fray, which is all about user experience and software, moreso than mere hardware specs per dollar.

I wouldn't risk upgrading to a non-final test version... If you google "problem after Nougat upgrade" you will find lots of problems for various phones including bad battery drain etc.

Which is why Google came up with 7.1.

You'd think this was the delay so we could all get that instead. But no, 7.0 is rolling out to Moto devices.
