I didn't say I have enough money to buy an IPhone, but that it offers reliability.
However, Moto G4 plus isn't so cheap and neither modest.

Whether something is expensive or inexpensive varies from person to person. However, given the fact that most flagship and high-end phones range from over $600 to more than $1000, a phone that can be purchased for as little as $150-250 depending on model is comparatively inexpensive. As I consider that cost, it equates to filling up my car with petrol 3-4 times; or, 3-4 trips to the grocery store; or, $3-4 a week to own over the course of year (aside from carrier fees which apply no matter what phone I use). I give at least that much or more each week to strangers in need of help.

However, the numbers aren't really the main issue here, which is that you purchased a device which does not meet your personal requirements, and now you want to blame someone else for YOUR decision. The specifications were available to you on numerous websites if you had taken the time to research before buying. Did someone MAKE you buy it? No. Was it the ONLY PHONE available to you? No.

The applications for navigating with Google or Waze have NO NEED for a compass. In fact, I have never seen fit to use a compass on any of my phones, and if I were an outdoorsperson who hiked or participated in geocaching, I certainly wouldn't rely on the compass in a cell phone. Why? Because they are frequently unreliable and need regular recalibration.  For most of us, knowing that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, and our driving/walking directions are fully available, is sufficient.

If you so dislike the G4, sell it and buy a phone that you do like, and stop insulting the volunteer moderators who give their own time to help other users solve problems. You threats are pointless and hollow and aren't going to get you a compass in your phone.

You better get a life of your own, instead of spending way too much time on this type of forums. Cheers,

Fact is there is good ground for confusion :

Moto G/4G : Compass/Gyroscope

Moto G3 : Compass

Moto G4 : Gyroscope

So coming from a G/4G I couldn't understand why my VR glasses didn't work properly with my G3. When I shopped around for a new phone I saw the G4 had a Gyroscope, great ! I had no good reason to suspect the compass was gone...Then I used Stellarium to watch the sky (had worked fine with the G3 the week before) and it didn't work properly with the G4, sigh...

And this is from someone who started playing with PockectPCs (iPaq 3630 anyone?) in 2001 ;-)

And yes, Google Maps on foot in town without a compass is pretty hard to use.

I totally agree and pointed out within this forum. Therefore, I strongly believe that the person who decided to take the Compass out of Moto G4, should be sacked right away. The phone would've been perfect with no time consuming when heading to a certain direction on foot.

I recently purchased the Moto G4 Play. I'm not sure which sensor my issue is with, but when I use apps that require a gps connection (such as Google Maps and Pokemon Go) my location will jump wildly all over the map and will miss turns that I take and continue to go in the wrong direction. Both of these apps have permission to access location services, which was the first thing that other forums had as an answer.

If your location jumps around then check 2 things:

1. Clear view of sky so GPS can get a lock (a problem in urban areas)

2. Location services set to high accuracy - this uses cell towers and wifi to enhance gps

Yeah, Stellarium was one of the first apps I put on my new G4 Plus, only to find it had no clue where I was facing.

Can a Lenovo person find out how much extra it would have cost to include that one extra sensor?

Navigation on google maps has not let me down, the phone functioned perfectly in getting me around roads I was not familiar with.  It's just not a good companion for an amateur astronomer  : (

So is Motorola/Lenovo considering impkementing this on future phones ...as is helpfull when standing still to know which direction one is facing ...no???  why else would other phones have it.

Kind regards

GPS shows location. It will do this on a map in offline mode if you download map data. It will also show you your movements and direction while moving.

But if standing still without a compass, nothing will show if you facing north or south.

Why would this feature be available in the Moto G phone and then be removed from the next generation phone Moto G4 Plus?  I not only have this issue with my compass app, but also my star tracker app.

There was a perfectly operational compass in the Moto G3. This backward step is very irritating.
