Chinese companies are the ones known for hacking into businesses and people's accounts... is it a coincidence that Lenovo only gave this phone a security update twice a year if you were lucky?

Re: Update to Android 8 Oreo for my G4

guys there are a few things to clarify

1.

motorola gets fast update is true only between 2012-2014, when it was directly under google.

so whenever you buy a motorola you can expect SLOW update, slower than most other competitor

2.

i've been using motorola since 20 years ago, slow update is basically how motorola worked way before google bought it.

Lenovo has way less control over motorola than you think, so don't blame lenovo. if you want fast update, go pixel

3

my wife just bought a NOKIA 8.1 (a semi-flagship) a few months ago, the first thing she realized is she can't lock the phone but just pressing the fingerprint sensor.....

a very simple function that we motorola user adapted for many years.

to lock the phone she has to either press the power button, or to use a lock screen app... kinda inconvenient

the fingerprint sensor can not do anything more than unlock the phone.....

so moto users, please accept the fact that moto is selling quality phone with SLOW update

I've just registered to post this but thought some people might be interested as I've been watching this thread.

I'm in the US with a retail G4 Plus. I received the Oreo update last night through a manual updates check. I wasn't able to update last night but am currently in the process of doing so.

Edit: All updated and it all seems fine so far, will see how daily usage goes.

That's encouraging!

Just checked the US support page for G4 plus. It says the update started in March. Doesn't give a completion by date, but, hey.

Interesting tho' that underneath, it says 'this product will no longer receive security updates'

Whereas the UK page doesn't say the rollout has started, just 'pending partner support', but DOES say 'this product will continue to receive security updates.

So looks like the December 2018 security update as part of 8.1 will be the last we get. Still, that's 2.5 years of security updates. Three would be better, but then you'd need an Android One phone for that commitment.

Good to know you've got it, anyway.

Let us know here if you see any great things (or bad things ??)

Re: Update to Android 8 Oreo for my G4

UK support just confirmed to me that because the G4 plus range is the oldest of their phones that will receive Oreo, then it'll be at the back of the queue.

Ok. Fair enough.

They also told  me that issues with the update on g5 phones had caused a delay in the whole process, but they confirmed we will get it in the UK.

When I logged my details with UK support, including the imei number, they told me I had a G4, not a G4 plus!. I pushed back, then they told me their support system can't distinguish a g4 from a G4 plus. Excellent ?

Still the news about the rollout starting in the US seems encouraging. It's been a looooong wait

Ya totally agree. Chinese companies were known for their worst quality products till now but now they will be known for their fake promises also......

Worst company of the century aka Lenovo?
