Re: Verizon Moto G Play XT1609 - Advanced Calling VoLTE HD Voice

Any CDMA network will act the same - since year 2000. No data and voice in the same time.

VoLTE is going around the issue by sending also the voice as data, kind of like any instant messeging over the Internet. But it's a feature completelly under the carrier control - Verizon in this case. The phone is "compatible" with the feature 100% but Verizon chooses to punish you for not buying it from them.

Very helpful.  If this is a Verizon issue I'll keep hounding them.  They told me that the phone is not capable of doing this, because that is how it was made.

Funny thing is that I have the Verizon prepaid version, so the phone was purchased from them.  The XT1609 is the Verizon version vs the XT1607.  Screwed myself on that also, as I didn't know it did not have the GSM bands, so only works on CDMA. The least they could do it allow me to surf the web and talk at the same time.

If anyone somehow finds a fix to this, please keep me posted!

Yeah. Keep hounding them for us ;) -- Honestly Verizon has been "this way" in some respect forever. Either they don't support something or they do it a little differenly to "market" products (AKA rip you off), etc. I already sold my G4 Play and switched networks. Verizon is running a legacy 1xRTT CDMA 2000 network alongside a modern LTE network. Their CDMA network is worthless. I dropped a ton of calls in the short time I had my G4 play and the call audio quality sounds like something from the 1940s. Shame because that was potentially one of the best deals in wireless right there, but Verizon's executives are clueless and only know how to sell S7s and iPhones to idiots. I am absolutely amazed people still subscribe. Lesson learned.

After 16 years with Verizon (because they have the best coverage where I am), nothing they do surprises me. It took a a few days to for them to activate Advanced Calling, but they did and yes I can conduct a phone call AND surf the web on the G4. However, I bought the phone from MOTO and it can be used on GSM bands as well as CDMA bands. If they really sold you a version that cannot work anywhere but Verizon, well, they're just as annoying as usual.

If they would concentrate on delivering better service and better connections, and stop messing with phones about which their tech staff knows very little, life would be better. They even managed to screw up both my Note 7 (had to return it) and Note 5 with the "VERIZON" version of the OS, eliminating useful and key features; even the free 15GB free storage from Samsung required a workaround to find and use. Gee, do you think Big Red wanted us to pay THEM for cloud storage?

If I could switch, I would.

Did you get them to activate Advanced Calling on the G4 or G4 Play?  If the latter, what did you eventually do to get them to activate it?  I've heard it working on the G4, but haven't seen an instance of it on the G4 Play.  You would think their own phone would be able to do it, but of course that woudl be too logical.  Beyond frustrated that they won't set it up for me.

I agree that the call quality on this phone is subpar, but I'm forced to use it as I have an UDP and can't upgrade.  The least I could do is talk and surf the web at the same time!

To my knowledge, nobody has this working on the G4 Play, although, I believe the unlocked G4/G4 Plus does support it. (Begrudingly by Verizon I'm sure) They probably cannot restrict the G4 because it is BYOD and would screw up customers bringing other mid range and flagship type devices to the network. My guess is that the G4 Play supports it just fine, but you're seeing a "tiering" method of marketing. Because it is an "entry level" branded device priced less than Samsung J3v and HTC Desire 530 (which, both support HD Voice/VoLTE go figure) Similarly, prepaid plans don't get visual voicemail. Seriously? Absolutely no reason they can't give it. They just don't wanna make it too sweet of a deal. Otherwise why sign up for a postpaid? Why buy a more expensive device? Why do any of outright fraudulent idiotic scam things they market to anyone? They gotta keep you boxed in. That is the only way a dishonest company can do business. My suggestion is "vote with your money" and switch.

Re: Verizon Moto G Play XT1609 - Advanced Calling VoLTE HD Voice

I have one of these as a "lake phone" for when I don't want to break my Pixel.

As far as I can tell, it's not possible to get VoLTE working--I have "advanced calling" enabled on my account, and it works with my Pixel (and worked with my officially-unsupported Nexus 5X before that), but the XT1609 doesn't have the option in the phone menu and the 4636 "testing" menu is blocked.

Not all LTE phones support VoLTE, though the regular G Play definitely does support VoLTE on T-Mobile, so I'm not sure what Verizon was trying to accomplish by breaking it here. I suspect they just didn't bother with it because this is a prepaid-only device and Verizon Prepaid only got access to VoLTE within the last few months.

The menu it is *#*#INFO#*#* (or *#*#4636#*#* ). Note that the * and # switch places at the end!

Re: Verizon Moto G Play XT1609 - Advanced Calling VoLTE HD Voice

I have the Verizon Moto G4 Play (XT1609) and it recently updated to Android OS version 7.1.1 and can confirm that it still does not support VoLTE.

That's disappointing, since it's rumored that after June 2018, phones that do not support VoLTE will not be able to be activated on Verizon.

That doesn't do anything on my XT1609
