Welcome to the Moto G⁴ community!

2016-05-17, 14:48 PM

Hi. This is the forum for Moto G⁴ owners and others who are interested in these phones. The phones will be launching in different regions globally in coming months and we hope to build a community of owners.

There is a ton of information about the phones even now, before launch.

What are you seeing? What questions do you have? (OTHER than "when can I buy it?" For that, visit your regional motorola.com web site and register for updates.) We'll do our best to get answers and build an FAQ here.

- Matt

amazon link is g4 plus not g4..

Question, Does the camera lens on standard g4 have glass cover or plastic ?

Looked at loads of websites/review & unboxing videos today (launch day) for an answer, but no luck..not on moto websites either.

Doesnt seem as though anyone has noticed the protruding camera lens housing.

Looks like lens cover on g4 stands out more than my current g3 which has a recessed lens and g4 lens may be prone to scratching like samsung s5. Ask an S5 owner..that fault in design is a big let down.

I hope the cover on the g4 is mineral glass,as I would not want to put my phone down on a flat surface then find the camera not up to the job due to scratches/marks on the lens housing.

looks like a nice phone for the price, same 13mp camera and f2.0 lens combo as my g3 by the look of things ,if not please tell us moto...will wait to see if the photo processing software is improved as i find colours wierd on my g3.

Photos sharp but colours are flat and boring with a tendency to be a tad on the cold side with motos inbuilt jpeg engine.Needs HDR all the time to make a decent shot.

Nice looking screen. Cant wait.:smileywink:

Thanks for enquiring @MattForumsMngr,

Good News.

Perhaps moto can update the specs on the g4 webpages.

Maybe moto will send me one for free for spotting that ! :smileywink:

No waterproofing for the g4 though unlike like my much loved g3 .

I do hope the jpeg processing is better on g4, with g3 a quick tweak in Adobe Lightroom works wonders  to warm things up and add punch but it would be better if it was done straight off the bat by moto.

Will the flip shell case be available for g4 ?

Best investment I made for my g3 after trying cheaper inferior types.

We found is that most people aren’t going swimming with their phones (no surprise). What people really need is something that protects their phone from the water that it’s actually most likely to encounter - like rain drops and those spills from knocking over a drink at your desk or on your coffee table. So the phone is protected where it needs it the most.

I am a lot disappointed, had bought a Moto X Pure just couple of weeks ago. The extra 5 mega pixels, front flash and an extra frontal speaker on my moto x pure is not at all worth missing octa-core, an extra GB of RAM and a finger print sensor on Moto G4Plus! Just waiting to hear on price which G4Plus be launched at and I wish for it to happen soooooon!

Its a pity the g4plus is Amazon exclusive.

For this you have to part yourself of £200 gbp in one hit.Ouch..

G4 Plus would be a perfect competetor against samsung/lg/htc in the mainstream contract market potentially blowing the rest out of the water for specifications against price.

The g4 vanilla is the one put up for those of us with regular supplier contracts and I cant help but think that this is "opportunity missed" by our friends @ moto.

The price in the UK is reputed to be £169gbp for the g4 and £199gbp for the plus via Amazon.

For £30 you get so much more and again I cant help thinking that the G4 is a half baked version of its slightly more expensive stable mate and not one which a current g3 owner would rush in to their local supplier on launch day to seek an upgrade.

My g3 has awesome speed, great ergonomics , strong battery and same camera. In theory, I would gain a little speed and 1/2 inch of screen real estate by upgrading to g4 vanilla.

My supplier/provider is Tesco Mobile and they are due to receive G4 in the coming weeks, unsure if I should go for it TBH.

If it was a G4 Plus being released to the masses on contract & payg, I think it would reach record breaking sales.

Good to see you again Matt,

After Gen1 booked my Gen4 phone on midnight @Amazon.

Waiting eagerly for delivery. 8 Phones booked from my near n dears,  2 got delivered.

Have some questions on my new upcoming phone, hope will get fast response as always...

01: SAR value for Moto g 4 Plus (3 GB RAM/ 32 GB) phone, not mentioned on amazon page.

02: Magnatc sensor is available or not with MotoG4 Plus ? If No than any backup plan for battery drain while using maps/navigation ?

03: No notification light seen in spec's :( not happy, any update will enable Low battery notification in Normal notification ?

04: Got heating concern with delivered phone while charging. Is it normal ?

05: At last but my Main Question, Is it eligible for Android N & O update ? Mentioned in Amazon page. but retailer themself are in doubt about it. :P

I am also interested in an answer on #02: does the G4(+) have a compass or magnetic sensor?

Thank you.
