Where is extract feature in Stock File Explorer?

2016-05-29, 17:20 PM

Seriously Moto? There are no where any feature to extract zip files in the stock File explorer.  Why did you even supplied it then if we still need another file explorer to unzip files?

I think you are referring to the stock android file explore feature in M.  You may want to send your comment to Google.

But regardless, the great thing about android - if you need more features, there is an app for that.  Most users are not power users. File downloads for most are pictures from mms or email.

I concur with AlphaDog. Also AlphaDog's reply to you contains a nice compliment as it implies that you are a power user.

There's a few nice free file manager out there that not only can extract zips and rars, but if you have any of the popular online cloud storage like drive, onedrive, Dropbox etc, you can integrate those accounts and everything can be accessed in that file manager. I highly recommend downloading one of the nicer file managers from the play store . the stock M browser isn't designed to do much .

I was using ES File explorer from last 4-5 years and it did every task fine. But my point was why this app is there if we have to download another one. There is many app for everything, so that doesn't mean I have to download every alternative app. And most importantly just extracting zip files can not be defined as power user as now even the music albums come in zip format. Hope you can understand what was I trying to point out.

I think you are indeed a power user, even more so after reading your reply. and I feel that you shouldn't discredit yourself because music can come zipped up from popular sites that non-power users frequent (bandcamp comes to mind for me) Google will probably never add the ability to decompress archived files in it's file manager. I feel they may think that adding this ability will make the devices vulnerable to non power users.
ES file Explorer is facing tough times right now, I'd try a different one.

As there are no option, I have disabled the app and moved to ES file explorer again. May be Google will release updates for it's stock File Explorer soon.

Bubai Bubai,

Please don't use ES File Explorer, I don't want you to have problems. There are it other good ones, ES doesn't deserve you. You are better . If you decide to use it anyway, please understand it doesn't change the fact that I have you in my heart and deep down I know you are a power user. I wish that maybe one day you won't have to download another file manager and can extract right in stock file manager.

With Love,

Adam
