Re: 5 Plus on Verizon - very poor call quality

Do you guys use bluetooth?  I made a topic about it but my calls are choppy when bluetooth devices are connected.  Even if I'm not using them to make a call.  So far they seem to be much better quality when nothing is connnected.  I'm also on Verizon.

I am having this same issue. People tell me that they can hear me just fine, but the calls have a rythmic choppiness that makes the phone unuseable. Tried using safe mode in case a 3rd party app was causing conflicts, but problem persisted. If I reboot the phone, the problem goes away for a while, but always returns. Signal strength has no impact. I returned my original G5 Plus for a new one yesterday. Everything was great for a while, and the problem is back. I'm on Verizon, and I brought the sim card over from an iPhone 6. I just switched to LTE/CDMA as preferred network type - I'll see if that helps. Probably going to ditch this phone tomorrow for a different model.

I've had it both ways (through Bluetooth and not using it). Very odd. I have had same issues as gossslide.  It works fine sometimes and not others.

I have noticed lately that some calls are difficult to hear even without bluetooth on.  So it is possible that I am experiencing the same issue but bluetooth just exacerbates it.

I am having this same issue. Brought sim over from an iPhone 6. I've tried the following:

- switching preferred network to LTE/GSM

- turning bluetooth off

- running the phone in safe mode

- getting the phone replaced. Second phone does the same thing.

The only thing that seems to work (for a while) is to reboot the phone. But within a few hours, the problem comes back. Signal strength seems to not matter - I have the issue with full strength.

I live in the Boise, ID area. Perhaps the issue is specific to particular network equipment in certain areas?

In any case, I plan on returning the phone for a different model if the problem isn't resolved in the next two days. Bummer because I really like the phone for the value.

I live near Boston, MA so I don't think it is an area problem.  I'm also on phone number 2.   I couldn't take an emergency call last night and after 3 attempts I had to use someone elses phone.  This is rediculous.  I think I need to return it as well.

Re: 5 Plus on Verizon - very poor call quality

I've not been successful in getting any meaningful information from Verizon on this issue.   The two agents I spoke to basically said that it was a device problem.

I thought my phone was over the issue but the choppy calls - both incoming and outgoing - occur at "random" times.  Sometimes it'd be perfectly good, other times pretty bad.   When it's bad, it sounds very much like a VoIP phone with very poor Internet connectivity.

It's really a shame because apart from the "phone" part of the phone, all else far exceeds my expectation of the device.

As a somewhat workaround for now, I set up call forwarding of my cell # to my Skype #.  It works well except that it's a weird thing to have to do.   Calling out, if the quality is poor, I use Skype, else I use the phone.   At some point though, this will be too absurd not to return the phone and get one that works reliably well.

Re: 5 Plus on Verizon - very poor call quality

I found a fix on my phone. Try this:

In network settings:

Data roaming> on

Preferred network type> LTE/CDMA

Enhanced 4G LTE Mode> turn off

System select> change the CDMA roaming mode

CDMA subscription> change b/w RUIM/SIM&NV

This is exactly what my network settings look like and my phone has been working great ever since I made the change over a week ago.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, tee149.   I'll give it a shot as well.    The initial two calls I did with those settings were good.  Hopefully future ones will remain so.   The fact that your phone's been working well since last week is heartening!  :-)

That, or rebooting the phone after, worked for a couple calls but then bluetooth agrivated the issue again.  It seems to be pretty random.
