Re: 5 Plus on Verizon - very poor call quality

2017-07-13, 15:23 PM

I have been returning every month for a replacement phone which extends the return window another 30 days.  This way, I can still return if ultimatley they don't make the fix or if I lose my patience and decide I have waited long enough.  It's a pain in the butt to have to package it up and return each month- but at least it keeps my options open.

I am very surprised the fix is taking this long.  It does not seem to be a priority since it keeps getting pushed out.

I just wanted to throw my hat into the ring on this subject.

I am also having the same problem with me not being able to understand what the person I am talking to is saying.

I returned my g5 once thinking it was the phone, but now I see it's Moto and Verizon that are at fault.

I think I know a simple solution, I'm going to switch to T-Mobile. Maybe then I can make a clear call and actually use this device.

This may help some people. Just bought this phone. Took it to a corporate Verizon store yesterday, they put in a new nano SIM and activated the phone all for free. Took less than 10 minutes. Phone did a small update and it was dated January. I powered off phone, removed sim card and then turned phone back on. I updated phone, another small update. Turned phone off, reinstalled sim and turned phone back on. This is the May update. If you remove the sim it will force the May update. Everything works just fine now. Hope this helps...

Thanks, I just did this. Strange that you have to remove the sim to get a security update. Did you turn VoLTE back on?

It looks like I got the phone as the bugs have been worked out with the  May update. HD calls are super clear. Able to use Chrome, Google Maps, etc... while on a phone call. The key is updating your phone with the sim card pulled out. It forces the May update. Sounds crazy, but it works now with no issues.

Just wondering did you ever have the issue to start? I already did the update  by taking my SIM out but in NYC my HD voice calls are still horrible, maybe this update fixed HD calling in certain areas but not others?

My last phone had a micro SIM, so I needed a new sim for this phone. Verizon corporate store programed the new nano SIM to my account and the G5 Plus. This was yesterday. I did take a call before I did the May update at home and the call quality was not great.

Don't know root cause of issue. If it's a regional issue. If new nano cards need to be programed to Verizon account and the G5 Plus.

I know there is a lot of frustration out there with these issues. This is hands down the best phone. Fingerprint/navigation is how it should have been years ago. Calls are the clearest they've ever been. People say they hear me better with this phone.

It didn't qork for me. I did the update, but as soon as I activated VoLTE the voice was garbled when my wife called me. Bummer.

Maybe it might be regional. I'm in Charlotte, NC. When you activated your phone did you use an existing sim card from another phone or did you get a new card programed to your account and phone at a Verizon corporate store?
