Re: 5 Plus on Verizon - very poor call quality

2017-07-22, 11:59 AM

I am adding to this thread to ensure I receive the most up to date information.  The phone part of this phone has been an absolute nightmare for me, with call quality getting worse by the day, even with enhanced lte turned off.  Not only am I incredibly disappointed with this product, I'm infuriated that Motorola/Lenovo appear to be doing so little about it.  I understand that it takes time to resolve issues like this, but with it reported in early April, we've moved past 3 months where we can't use this phone as a phone!  If anyone is listening, I truly hope this issue is being moved to the forefront of concerns.  Thank you.

I just got my phone two days ago with the same issue and this post is from well over one month ago, so there is no patch. I am about to return the phone, shame on Lenovo for using the Moto name to make a poor-quality product. I will go back to my MXP and look for another phone in the meantime, and it will not be a Lenovo/ Moto product.

So, the Moto G5S Plus...is expected to be launched tomorrow. I wonder if this model will have the same issues as the Moto G5 Plus...it would be nice if Moto/Lenovo would fix issues with current models before releasing new models.

This is ridiculous. Returning phone tomorrow. They obviously don't care if they are "working on it" for months. Too busy launching the $700 phones. Shame, shame.

I agree. This is very frustrating. I'm a lawyer and get calls from work on my cell and can't make out what the other people are saying. I had one like that the other day and it was a court clerk calling about one of my cases on an issue that needed to be resolved immediately, but I couldn't understand a she was saying. Thankfully I had another cell phone with me. Saturday night my wife, a nurse supervisor who was on call last week, got a call from a frantic nurse over some issue but could not make out a word she said. She tried calling back three times but it was still impossible to make out what this person was saying. We were almost home where she grabbed a different phone and thankfully it was just something stupid this nurse was in a tizzy about, but these darned phones are a liability in their present state. They need to work as phones.

We disabled Enhanced 4G LTE yesterday and hopefully that helps.

Not sure Motorola is worth anything at this point. We finally got rid of the second G5 Plus piece of junk and bought a Moto Z Play Droid and it has an issue receiving text messages and sending them. Numerous times people haven't received texts we've sent. These devices are complete garbage. Luckily my Moto X Pure has worked well, except for the battery life of course, it has sucked from the beginning. It does have a 4K IPS display though.

Re: 5 Plus on Verizon - very poor call quality

Purchased my Moto 5G+ June 14th, Verizon network, the first two weeks were fine (I noticed the speaker volume seemed a little low) but the last 2 weeks the choppy calls started and low-volume speaker/headset was very noticeable. Now every call I make is garbled and impossible to hear the other person on the other end. I work in real estate and this phone is my lifeline this is been a nightmare. When I first noticed the problem I went back and forth with Verizon with no solution (after confirming what phone I had they never mentioned this obvious huge problem). Today I found this thread, sadly just a few days past the 30-day Amazon return policy. I'm going to try some of the solutions recently proposed by the other members including registering my phone and updating my meid. I'm hoping in the next few days a  REAL solution will present itself (turning off my 4G in the in the short-term). My last hope is with enough begging Amazon will take this (insert bad word) phone back.

Turning off Enhanced 4G LTE mode helped us. We have three of these phones, and my wife and I both use our phones for work a lot. It's easy to do. Just go to settings and under the first section, Wireless & Networks, click "More" and then click "Cellular Networks" and it will open up to where you can turn Enhanced 4G LTE Mode off. You will see immediate improvement, no more garbled calls. They really need to fix this and quick. I really like these phones but a phone that doesn't work as a phone doesn't work for me and I am not confident Motorola will ever fix this problem.

This will be my last Moto device. I have lost all confidence in this company at this point.

It's a shame, they used to be so good.
