I honestly wonder if this is band related.  I've been using this phone on Verizon off and on since the phone came out in the US.  I'm mostly on band 2 and 4 in Michigan and haven't had the garbled connection problems, fingers crossed.  Maybe band 13 is where the issues are happening?  I'm rarely noticing im on band 13 here in michigan, which might be why I've had good luck so far.

I downloaded the app you suggested. I'm in central Ohio, and I'm at work now which is relatively far from home, so not sure if it will be different at home, but currently it looks like I'm usually on 2 or 4. But inteteresting that right after I switch Enhanced 4g LTE mode either on or off, it seems to flip over to band 13 for a minute or 2, but eventually it goes back to 2 or 4. Not sure if that means anything but thought it was interesting. I do have the poor call quality issue when Enhanced LTE mode is on, but has been mostly fine as long as I leave that off.

Is there anyway to force the phone to stay on a particular band? If so, seems like that would be a way to test your theory...

I'm not sure how to lock in the band. But if you and most  other people have this issue on bands 2 and 4, that would debunk my theory. It's weird I haven't had this issue when so many others have. It could be why this is taking so long to fix. I will be traveling this weekend to another region and will see if I have any issues. Everywhere I've been in Michigan, which ranges from the southeast to the northern lower peninsula have been fine in my use.

Well, this got me thinking.

I downloaded the lte discovery, made a call on band 13 and still had issues. I waited a few till it flipped to band 4 and made another call, still having issues so that does disprove the band issue theory. HOWEVER, I noticed something interesting, when I had 2-3 neighbor cells the call quality would be complete sh1t. BUT if these two other neighbor cells showed up, the quality would be fine. Notice there is no PCI on these neighbor cells.

Well this 100% has something to do with the issue. If I move the phone and loose those two neighbor cells the call quality immediately drops. Moving the phone around my office and the phone works perfect as soon as those two pop back up. Both seem to come and go at the same time, I have not seen either one with PCI 000 by themselves. Also it doesn't seem to matter if I have 2,3,4 neighbor cells with PCI numbers, as long as those two with 000 are there the phone is fine. CMON moto, lets get working on this, or give us g5s for those of us that cant return any more.

Is this while you're pretty much in one area? Mine does it all the time and I do a lot of talking while driving via Bluetooth. But it also does it when I'm at home. As others have mentioned, the Bluetooth doesn't seem to be a factor. Just throwing stuff out there.

If you have root access, an app called "Network Signal Guru" is able to force the band setting (by temporarily locking out bands you don't want).  It needs root in order to directly manipulate registers in the radio/modem section, which also allows gathering a lot of detailed technical info on modulation & MIMO type, LTE channel width, carrier aggregation, raw bit-error-rates , etc. not otherwise available.

I don't think normal Android OS calls exist for forcing a particular band, since the carriers want to control this themselves for network load-balancing purposes.  e.g. Verizon's Band 13 (700MHz) normally carries further and penetrates better into buildings than does Band 2 (1900Mhz) or 4 (1700/2100), but also has less overall bandwidth available, so they only want phones parked there when nothing else can be received.  Band 13 was also their original LTE build-out, before the others were added for increased capacity, which might be why phones temporarily switch to it after a settings change.

Two different cell sites showing PCI 000 is puzzling - normally PCI's are supposed to be distinct within a region (no two towers with the same assigned PCI should be within range of each other, since this is how their signals are distinguished despite sharing a frequency).  Maybe those two are on separate bands, or distinct LTE carriers within the same band, if Verizon has discontiguous licenses in your area.  Or LTE Discovery just isn't properly identifying them...

DITTO!

If they can't fix the problems, then they need to step up and compensate us.

Thank is Lenovo's fault, not Verizon's or the users fault.
