Really is kinda strange that Moto pushed a security update May 2017 in June and now in August they push an update for Verizon customers with a security patch level of March 2017

The reason for this is because we've been working on it that long. If we were to try and get a newer security patch into it, we'd have to delay things even longer. We figured it was more important to get the fix out.

If that's the case why weren't we advised not to take the May security patch. You had to have known that this was going to cause us not to get the VOLTE patch. I use three different phones, just swapping Sim in and out. I saw the June update and took it. I would have waited if I had known.

Exactly. Moto should have warned we Verizon users that updating the phone would have caused a delay in getting the patch to fix the VoLTE issue on Verizon. Now some are stuck with either waiting weeks (or longer) for a promised patch or download the patch (and hope it hasn't been corrupted/hacked) from a third party site just to fix the VoLTE issue.

I'm on Sprint network and same ol' issue. When do Sprint users get an update? Only update received was May security patch.

 

What I can't figure out is why the call volume is so heavily restricted. At Max volume it's far too low. The phone is capable since music and video can be played at much louder levels. Is the patch or update designed to resolve both issues? If the voice issue is fixed and not the volume limitation will unfortunately have to return the phone.

The patch is for Verizon only as it is suppose to fix VOLTE or enhanced calling issue. This patch does not address call volume or Sprint network as far as I know.

The issues are not specific to Verizon. It's a general problem with these phones and perhaps with carriers that use CDMA vs. GSM. It's mentioned in other forums. So far, dropping the setting to 3g has improved voice quality, yet volume remains inadequate.

No one is dropping to 3G on Verizon we are simply turning off enhanced  calling. Enhanced or HD calling allows data and voice to be used at the same time. All carriers use LTE now.
