64 bit or 32 bit Android?

2017-03-09, 11:02 AM

Will the Moto G5 (Plus) be shipped with a 64 bit Android? The press annoucement highlights a 64 bit CPU. But as the Moto G4 did the same and shipped a 32 bit Android through, this may just be wrong adverticement again. I want to run some 64 bit apps, so I need both, a 64 bit CPU *and* a 64 bit Android installed.

Same question, but with a few technical words for google: Will it support the "arm64-v8a" ABI or only the "armeabi-v7a" ABI again?

Edit: Something to read about why we need it: http://www.androidauthority.com/arms-64-bit-architecture-is-good-for-developers-407346/

Hi ,

I've run a benchmark with the Moto G5 plus that I have and it's showing 32 bit.

There are disadvantages to running 64bit OS on hardware that is not optimal

http://softwareengineering.stackexchange.com/questions/315810/is-there-a-good-reason-to-run-32-bit-software-instead-of-64-bit-on-64-bit-machin

besides what is mentioned here, if the data bus of the architecture is smaller then the internal data registers and their is no increase in data bus speed, the cpu will take 2 or more clock cycles to populate with data - this would makea 64bit system slower then a 64bit system.

But I don't know if this phone is 64bit or 32bit OS - maybe someone with one can run a benchmark.

I don't find any reason of Using ARM64 Architecture in Mobile (4GB Memory).

Do U find any??

Yea, In some places 64Bit Perform better..

But Thing is, Moto G are available in many Memory Variant, One can say 3/4GB Memory sufficient and good for using 64bit, but what about 2GB Variant.

32Bit uses less Memory resources and offer better Multitasking (Capabilities to hold more background services and activities). If Motorola Start providing 64Bit in 3/4 GB Variant, Developer will have to work too much for upgrades and all. So 32Bit is Unified approach.

Why Motorola not update your phone in 64bit Android version. Because of 32bit this Moto g5 plus not support Vulcan API we are not play Vulcan API games.

Vulkan has nothing to do with OS or CPU Instructions Set Architecture.

None of Game/Apps is ONLY VULKAN SUPPORTED.

This won't happen. In fact, it would be the first device which gets an arch upgrade. It is possible, and I'd appreciate it a lot, but I don't see it happen at all.

But, 64 bit is not required for Vulkan. The 32 bit arch is very fine for it.

With Moto g5 plus we can't play afterpluse because it supports 64bit Android and galaxy on fire 3  because it supports Vulcan API.

Moto g5 plus is still on Android 7.0 no Android update Google Android o also.
