Adding Ringtones to Moto G5 Plus

2017-03-31, 23:48 PM

I'm new to Android, was a Windows Phone user for sometime, and adding my own ringtones was simple as emailing it or txting it to myself. Have a couple of ringtones I want to use on my new device but can't seem to figure out how to save them to my device as a ringtone, or to the device for that matter. Anyone know how to do this, please.

In the internal storage of the Android phone, create a folder named Ringtones (if it doesn't exist already) and place all the ringtones in this folder.

Now, go set your desired ringtone in Settings > Sounds. The newly added ringtones will show up on the list of ringtones as their filenames.

I did, but the mp3 that I want as a ringtone doesn't show up. Moto G5 (no plus)

Android 7.0

Hi.

I downloaded my mp3 file. I then went into Google Play Store and searched for "motorola file manager". This found software already on the phone that was "disabled". I ENABLEd it and the button changed to OPEN. Open it.

Choose the LOCAL tab, navigate to Local > Internal storage > Download and then long-press the mp3 file. This selects it. Click the three-dots menu in the top-right corner and select "Move to" from the pull-down menu. Then navigate up one directory and down into Ringtones (e.g. Local > Internal storage > Ringtones).  Long-press the background. The top of the screen says "Paste to" and has a clipboard icon to the right of it. I just pressed that to deposit the file there.

Then follow instructions, in prior post above, for seeing and choosing that file as your ringtone.

Good luck,

Graham

@spiceisland That helped me, thanks. There is also the Device Help app but that doesn't mention needing to enable the file manager app.

I have a G5 purchased only two days ago. It's the Amazon UK version. I cannot unlock permissions to add a new ringtone to the directory. I have tried using the Motorola file manager app and FX Explorer.

I don't know if it is relevant but I have also integrated an SD card into the Android file system.

I know everything except how to get write permission to the directory.

All advice gratefully received

Please note that the location of the Ringtones must be in Internal storage of the phone, not in the SD card. Probably that's why you might have got the write permission error. Follow the solution while using the internal storage of the phone and it should work just fine.
