Re: Battery Life problem after update

For those with batery consumption issues:

I had high battery consumption (and hot phone) after installing 8.1. The "Advanced battery usage" report showed that the GPS was active even though I had not been using a GPS app.

I toggled Location off and on again in the quick options.

Power consumption was good after this toggling.

GPS works when needed. Actually better than expected; battery went down less than 5% with Cygic running and navigating (screen and GPS active) for 40 minutes.

Same misbehavior and same solution after installing the security update.

Give Location a try.

Re: Battery Life problem after update

I received notification last week that the 8.1 update is now avaiable for my G5+.

After reading about all the problems everyone is having with this update I am very hesitant to install the update.  Is anyone from Lenovo looking into these problems so that they can provide a permanect solution and a patch for their customers?

Does anyone know how to disable the reoccuing update notification until Lenovo provides a new improved update to correct all the problems?

Re: Battery Life problem after update

Not everyone is having problems and in my case, where I did have problems, a factory reset sorted out all the issues.

When I bought a couple of the G5s, I noted that the reviews mentioned that Motorola/Lenovo were using a mostly standard release of Android with very little modification, if any, from the Google release.

If that information was correct, then it's not really down to Motorola to fault find the release, but Google itself.

Probably the most relevant observation from other users is that the number of cores involved in basic operations is higher in V8.x than in V7.x and of course this is going to have an effect on battery life, but I doubt that anyone but Google can modify the core handling within Android without risking seriously breaking the software.

The other factor is that the apps you have installed on your phone at the moment may not be fully compatible with Oreo, and in my case, having performed the factory reset, I did not replace many of the apps as there was no point in cluttering my phone with software I had not used in the last year. They are still there in Google Playstore if I want to restore them at a future date.

I charge my phone once a day but it seldom drops below 30% unless I have spent the evening playing games on it.

Have you tried a factory reset? If not, try that first, as restoring the earlier version of Android would require this, assuming it does not break your phone. A factory reset would most likely fix your issues as it did for me. Otherwise, read back through this thread for answers.

Re: Battery Life problem after update

As EdT says, all the answers are already in this thread. I must admit after a few weeks that some apps are not OREO compatible, especially phone/voice recorders. However that problem occurred on nougat as well with same battery problems. On every windows update on PC there are allways programmes incompatible as well or even hardware and drivers. With XP to win 7 disappeared my BT848 TV card, my technisat satellite reception card and my Skype handset......... So no new phenomenon in this tech world. I will give honest advice, every two years you need to buy a current mobile phone as it seems. Buying an iPhone 6s for 350 bucks as is retailing now is a very bad deal. Yeah I know technical live span was 10 years some while ago, but it is not any more. And back then we could not have this discussion right here also.

I have updated the phone when the roll out was going on and been using the phone since then ! it's 6 jan now so I think there was a sufficient gap for the software and hardware to adopt whatever it has to ...

still my battery drains like crazy.

I also own another g5 plus and its battery management is excellent.

provide a solution please.

restart it. Install Greenfy and see what is staying open. I already informed the factory. Google beleive it is the Lenovo/ motorla's issue because they do customize the OS for their phone.

I installed the app and there were a bunch of apps., to be hibernated. Lets see if this improves the battery and not hinders the performance. Thank you for the suggestion.

Also, if any moto representative have any solution, please provide  !
