Re: G5: Higher frequency of Google App Has Stopped messages

Try clearing the app cache from recovery menu(steps are available in the Device Help app). That usually helps with app crash related issues.

Re: G5: Higher frequency of Google App Has Stopped messages

2018-03-05, 3:38 AM

My phone was 100% before, but after applying the NPP25.137-93 update it isn't.

I used to have a SD card and all my apps that were installed on the SD card stopped working, all with the same message: "(instagram, messenger, pocket) stopped working". I thought it could be the card, so I took a long time to move them all to internal storage, formatted the card and even removed it from the phone altogether. No luck.

I can't install Evernote (error varies from 963 to 902), WhatsApp never finishes it's backup, screenshots are not saved, camera stopped saving pictures, and so on. This looks a lot like a filesystem permission error, but as my phone is NOT unlocked/rooted or whatever, I can't see what's going on. Oh, I can't even use the "Android File Transfer" app to move files to my phone anymore.

Already tried clearing EVERY CACHE I found, lol. Still no luck.

Any ideas?

Oh, I forgot to add that after this update my battery was running out a LOT faster, and the phone was hot as hell.

After removing the SD card, the batter got back to normal.

I think the problem was related to the Google Now feature. I had to search Google Now Launcher in the Play Store and install. Interesting that you've found this helped, because I have had that app installed all along, but disabled. I don't want Google's search and Now apps on my phone.

Looks like you might be onto something, as I checked my Store and found Google Now Launcher still disabled as I'd set it before the update so I reenabled it. I now cannot find it in Settings>Apps in order to disable it again and the Disable/Enable button has vanished from the Store listing.

Perhaps you meant to say enable too when you said install.

I will try reenabling and relaunching the Google App, clearing its data and disabling it again.

No crashes after a week of having the Google App enabled. Now disabling it and monitoring for crashes.

Within a day of disabling the app the messages started appearing again.

About the SD card issue:

Remove the SD card and then try wiping cache partition from the recovery options.

This might help your battery to return back to normal.

About the Google App issue:

Just clear one thing, the messages started after you disabled it first?

Yes, they did. They didn't appear while the app was enabled.

So basically you want to disable the app while not receiving the messages, right?

But I think it's not possible.

Everytime an app which has connection with the app in question is opened this messages will keep on appearing. See, whenever you disable an app a warning screen appears. When an app is disabled it affects the functioning of other apps. So it's probably better to bear with the messages.

Anyways if I find a solution I'll contact here.

I had the Google App disabled before the most recent update and I did not receive these messages every few hours.

I did explain this in my subject and first post but since that guy added off-topic stuff about his SD card we seem to be going in circles.
