I don't like fingerprint sensors - is it possible to disable it by covering it?

2017-07-06, 18:35 PM

I don't like fingerprint scanners on the phones and I never use them.

I like to know if it is possible to effectively disable the fingerprint sensor on Moto G5 Plus by covering it with something as thin as a screen protector or similar.

I don't mind not using the One Touch Nav. are there any other functions in this button/sensor?

Hi Motoleno,

If you don't have any fingerprints set up on your phone and you have one-nav button activated, then, the only use of that sensor is for one-nav. If you have fingerprints set up on your phone and you want to remove it, check this link.

Thanks for your reply. I prefer to disable it physically, rather than trusting the software. is that possible by covering it with a thin layer like an screen protector? or are they able to read the fingerprint even through the covering?

We have not tested that possibility since this phone was designed to have the the fingerprint sensor but I am thinking that if you are going to use a clear film to cover it, it will still be able to recognize fingerprints.

If you don't have the FP reader turned on in android security settings, then it is not reading your finger print. And it is not like it reads and stores your fingerprint either. If you are distrustful of software disabling it, how do you know for sure that a covering would truly block it?

My phone slipped from my hand and fell down on the floor .. and sadly the finger print sensor damaged very badly easily with a crack along the sensor .. How much will cost me to repair it or change it ????
