Do I need to turn off the phone first?
It is certainly the best idea. I have swapped sims without, but powering down is safer.

It wasn't until I read those stupid instruction on how to insert SIM card in dual SIM card instructions. The only one that was supplied inthe box sold to me in the USA. Did my SIM card get jammed. Now what? I took it back to frys to see if they could help . They tried and failed. And wouldn't return or exchange the phone because I damaged it. That's messed up. I followed the instruction very carefully to insert sim slot 1 . And now I'm left wth a useless phone. Please someone tell me if that is really my fault? I think that is a manufacturer mistake.

I know there has been some confusion floating around the web and on our forums about the SIM tray and how to insert the SIM Card on the Moto G5 Plus. I wanted to take a moment to clarify a couple things.
First, the US version of the Moto G5 Plus is Single-SIM only and does not support Dual-SIM.
Second, below are updated diagrams for how to properly install the SIM card and microSD Card into your Single-SIM Moto G5 Plus.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sorry if this has come up, but the above picture above seems to imply the tray "front" is not the same as the phone "front."
No wonder there is confusion.
PS. I did not go through all the pages, so maybe this anomaly has come up. But I always found it confusing to remember which way the tray goes back in. If one does not think to remember, or take note of this, it is confusing.
