Hi scotte-motog,

We recommend use of a  high speed card , such as a UHS-1 type.   Class 4 and Class 2 micro SD cards are not recommended for adopted internal storage usage. The performance of these cards is typically 10x slower than internal storage performance.

High speed card are identified by these logos:

If your card it too slow, your device will warn your during the adoption process. If you encounter this dialog, we advise to upgrade your card to a UHS-1 card first.

Not all UHS-1 cards are created equal in terms of speed. UHS-1 is actually only guaranteed 10MB/s. I can recommend Samsung Pro 32gb which is 20€ in my country and can do about 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write.

Look for a card that is "A1" rated. That means it has been tested to work properly with Android extended storage.

I bought a Sandisk Extreme 128MB SDXC (DSQXAF-128G-GN6MA). A bit of overkill, probably. The A1 SD Bench app gives a read speed of 62.89MB/s, and write of 38.97MB/s. Internal memory speed is nearly 200 read, 114 write.

for some reason, SD card speed on the G5 Plus is too slow... i have tried the same SD card on mi wife's g4+ and my g5+ and the g4+ always give faster speeds. Also when you try to use any (yes, ANY) sd card as internal on g5+, it will give you the "this sdcard is too slow" message.

my SD card is a SanDisk Ultra UHS-1 A1 32GB with 60Mbps write speed.

Re: Micro SD card recommendation

HI:

I have a Moto G5 Plus. I bought a Samsung microSD card. I got the message that says the card is too slow. After reading what is in this thread I am seeing that all cards are getting this message. Samsung claims that my card can do 100MB/s read. And 90 MB/s writes. I appear to have a very fast card according to Samsung, so why did I get the same message as others in this thread?

Thanks

Never believe what the packaging says as far as speeds. Get the A1 Speed app and test the memory yourself.

Re: Micro SD card recommendation

I found A1 Sd Speed test. It crapped out when testing my sd card. I got a read cache problem. I found another ram tester. It says my read is 49 MB/s and my Write is 19MB/s. Which to me is vastly different than what the mfg. claims. And yet when I ran the internal speed test I got a read speed of 49 MB/s and a write speed of 18 MB/s. When I put the SD card into my phone it said the new ram is slow. This is very confusing.

The best SD card to use as internal storage?

2018-07-28, 14:58 PM

I read some threads where several people have used 32gb cards and one person mentioned using 128gb but said it was a bad move.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific SD card to use as internal storage for my 16gb Moto G5?

- I have cleared CAC, moved photos/videos etc but keep on finding I have little space left.

Post merged into a running thread. -Sandip
