Re: Moto G5 4g/3G sim dual sim

Hi, Any ETA on the 3g/4G fix? I purchased a G5 model but the second SIM fails to register over 2G and subsequently SMS and Voice fails as well. The only solution is to enable data roaming on SIM2 and set it to be a primary data carrier (4G).

If the fix is in the works then I won't need to replace it.

thanks

Re: Moto G5 4g/3G sim dual sim

I have the G5 Latin american version...XT1671 and I definitely get LTE on SIM1 and 3G on sim2.  The sim cards are two diferrent providers in the US.  Straight talk for sim 1 and H20 for sim 2.

It could be that certain versions of the dual sim models don't support 3g on sim2.

Re: Moto G5 4g/3G sim dual sim

Motorola Jess,

this is not correct..... the MotoG5 is the phone we're referring to and it does not accept 3G in the second slot.  The G5 plus does and G4 plus does.  We G5 owners are waiting on the patch to upgrade this facility.

Re: Moto G5 4g/3G sim dual sim

I have found issues with my Moto G5 2nd Sim usage. It is dropping from the network / calls are unavailable.
I think if Lenovo would update the 3G/2G function for the 2nd sim, it could help the problem..

I use the 2nd sim slot for my personal phone number and many of my friends complain for not getting calls trhough..

Based on our testing it looks like you're correct that the G5 will drop the 2nd SIM slot down to 2G where as the G5 Plus allows 3G for calls on the 2nd slot. Thanks for helping us clarify this. I'll pass this along to our engineers for consideration.

Re: Moto G5 4g/3G sim dual sim

Hello,

I recently bought a Moto G5 for its Dual SIm capacity, and I am in front of the same problem,

that is that my 1st SIM is 3G/4G data enabled, and my 2nd SIM is Voice+SMS only and is locked to 2G communication which really works awfully.

Is there a way to have 3G on both SIMs ?

Is it possible to have information for an upgrade of the Moto G5 to manage 3G/4G vs 3G,

or is it better to consider negotiate the replacement of the G5 with a G5+ ?

Re: Moto G5 4g/3G sim dual sim

Hi denis06,

There can only be one SIM card to set for data usage. So, if your first slot is set to either 4G/3G, the other one will automatically set to 2G network. There are carriers which allow 3G network if their SIM card is set to another slot but it will only be used for calls only.

Re: Moto G5 4g/3G sim dual sim

Hello  MotorolaJess,

My 2 SIMs are from the same provider / carrier.

This carrier accepts 3G and 4G for my 2 SIMs, for anything:  calls, SMS, data.

The current settings of my Moto G5 are

SIM1 : Calls + SMS

SIM2: Data

When I send or receive a call on my SIM1 number, it is always 2G. I don't know why.

If I remove my SIM2, without changing SIM1 configuration (i.e. Calls+SMS, no data), calls on my SIM1 are in 2G .

If I re-enable Data on my SIM1, it immediately switches to 3G or 4G.

So I can't help think that it is my Moto G5 which locks my SIM1 to 2G when data is disabled

With my previous smartphones (LG Nexus 5X and Sony Xperia Z3) I had only this same "SIM1" with data disabled, and I could send or receive calls in 3G. Enabling or disabling data had no influence on the 2G/3G/4G selection.

On my Moto G5, data disabling on a SIM automatically locks this SIM to 2G. Can this be changed ?

Is it the same for other G5 or G5+ ?

Thank you for your help,

Sincerely yours,

Denis
