Should a warranty not cover the simple case of not working ?

If a phone don;t do a simple thing as making calls    it should be replaced  point....    if you did not bake it and your provider is supported there is no problem but you have to send it back...   no need to try anything....     a phone simply has to work.  even an cheap one.

I think he is saying that Lenovo service are claiming that the phone has physical damage therfore it is not covered by the warranty for repair.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yes - read above. Warranty service was denied because the phone was bent. Warranty does not cover physical abuse.

If the phone looks like a banana the warranty will be void.  The question is who turned it into a banana?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

People here respond without having a clue about local consumer law and just talk like their local crap is ruiling the world....  They really care more about saying something then actually helping someone.

Warranty for most manufacturers and jurisdictions  includes phrases excluding abuse.

Even if the OP is Uri Geller and bent the phone with his mind - it is not an intended use of the product and voids the warranty. The service center, which gets paid to service, and doesn't get paid if they turn away a phone, indicated this phone is out of warranty due to abuse - it is bent. Even if the bend is slight, the service center determined the phone was out of spec.

You appear to be the one that is trying to make assumptions when the official center made a decision.

If a phone has  dent on the side, the user can say that the drop didn't cause any damage, but it is enough evidence that most warranty claims will be denied.

So, Motorola should prove that broken screen is also a consumer fault too? Phones bend on their own?

Guys! Relax!

Isn't the issue here supposed to be to try and get the guy's phone working reliably?

The service centre has, for their own good reasons, washed their hands of the problem. That appears final.

The user seems to have got the phone working, so now it's about trying to determine whether this is a long term fix or if he's let with an intermittent fault.

(Incidentally, I've felt aggrieved myself after what felt at the time like a disservice by a Moto service centre in the past, but sometimes you just gotta suck it up and move on)

Depending on the extent of the bend, it's possible that the pcb has sustained some damage.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Every decent phone have multiple sensors to detect if a phone was exposed to forces that are above "normal use"  like dropping and moist.

Here, if you don't agree with the manufacturers about a warrnty claim you can use an independent source for a second opinion. That conclusion will be binding and the looser pays.   So if you screen is broken but the sensor didn't register any dropping it's waranty, if the sensor reading shows different you have to pay for replacement.

Here the customers are simply wel protected..   Don't forget, factory warrnty means nothing here, a phone has to work for at least 3 year.

And the reseller handle you warrnty claim, he sold you something not the factory....   It Is not that hard to understand.

I keep saying that if you only have local know how you might limit yourself to your own backyard.
