I purchased a new unlocked G5 Plus and I am having a terrible time with carrier availability! Apparently there are multiple versions of the Moto G5 Plus and mine (XT1681) is rejected by many of the activation and compatability checks for carriers.
Do I have a defective phone? Is there some trick?
I am looking for a reasonable carrier and don't need unlimited data. I was previously with Republic Mobile but of course they don't accept this phone.

The first thing to do is to check that the phone really is unlocked.
Some vendors can sell phones without checking
