Moto G5 Plus problems with 128GB micro SDXC card?

2018-07-29, 17:55 PM

My Moto G5 Plus has a 128GB SDXC card. It has worked fine until just last week. Now the camera app crashes regularly. I installed Camera MX, which has the same problem. At first I thought it was a camera hardware problem, but then I installed a 64GB SD card and everything worked fine. Thinking maybe the 128GB SD card was dying, I bought a brand new one: Samsung EVO, UHS-I, class U3. The same thing happened.

I then realized that the 128GB card had just passed the 64GB data limit; i.e., over half full. I saw some postings about a problem with data corruption on 128GB SD cards. It feels to me like there is some king of bug with large SD cards, or maybe with sector numbers going past a certain power of 2 at 64GB. Does that make sense?

Is there a known issue of this sort? At this point, I have no confidence in being able to use a 128GB SD card, feaering that something will be corrupted.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks
