Moto G5 overheating and battery draining while afk

2018-10-19, 13:07 PM

My Moto G5 is reaching 45°/49°C even when I turn all the apps off or restart it. Along with that, my battery is pouring down like lava, in less than 20 min, 15% were consumed. I've uninstalled several apps to see if it worked, but it didn't. What am I supposed to do so it stops overheating (even while charging).

I am having the same problem.  I think it is tied to the August security patch (NPNS25.137-93-18).  Is there anyway to uninstall it?

Same here, except my phone is not getting hot like it was the first time, but I'm only getting around 6 - 7 hours max out of my phone, and I've tried 2 calibration cycles so far of letting the battery die to 0%, charging with the phone off to 100%, then turning the phone on, and then repeat the 2nd time.

Ageed.  I am seeing the same problem...i was able to get the phone to cool down by closing all apps running in the Background(aka the Square softkey on the bottom right hand side)  My battery normally lasts all day without manually closing the apps and now i was below 35% at 11:30am.  Plus my pocket was on fire.  Not good.

I am having battery drain problems since the system update that came through a few days ago, even with minimal use the battery drained to 48%, I rarely saw my battery drain past 65% and that was with some usage.  It would be nice if there was an answer to this!  My husband has the same phone and his is also draining since the system update of a few days ago.

Its seems this is an actual thing and not my imagination nor my phone alone...how do we make an official complaint? does it go to Motorola, Lenovo, or Android? Are these forums monitored for "problem trends"?

I'm having the same problem.  I turned it on at 7:30 and it was dead by 3:00.  Also feels warmer.  And, I am pretty confident what we are experiencing is a result of Moto's security release.

On Wed 10/17, my phone worked perfectly;  a little under 50% battery used when I went to bed.  I installed the security update yesterday, 10/18, about 7 am.  Didn't use the phone much during the day.  About 2:30 I heard the battery notification and it was dead before I left work.  Same experience today.  There were no other software updates in the intervening time.

I called CS last night and was REALLY disappointed.  No way you can go back to a prior version.  Have to get a new phone, which is a whole other nightmare process.

My phone literally froze up and rebooted as I was typing this response. ItsI been doing that since the update. Also I noticed my location icon at the top of the screen keeps disappearing. That may be why the battery is draining so fast

Update:  They will not replace your phone with a new one;  it will be refurbished.  My phone is still under warranty.  If you don't want to be without a phone, they will send you the re-furb, for $150 charge on your credit card.  They will credit your account if you return your old phone.

I find this unacceptable.  The "official complaint" email is ceomoto@motorola.com.  Please everybody... send in an email.
