No folders shown when G5 is connected to the PC

2021-04-16, 17:01 PM

My G5 has served me well for a few years, until now.

When it is connected to my Win10 PC, the phone is recognized, but without any folders. It used to work fine. What can be the problem and fix? Thanks.

Hi bit_confused,

Thanks for posting your concern here and we would like to help you. Try to check your phone once it is connected to the PC, you should receive a notification on the type of USB connection. Tap on that notification and choose File Transfer/MTP (Media Transfer protocol. That should be able to show your folders from the PC.

Best regards,
Zeke

Thanks for the suggestion.

I did select the File Transfer option, and it used to work, showing the phone's folders. Now, with File Transfer selected, File Explorer would only show that the phone is acknowledged, but without any folders shown.

BTW, I am using the Moto USB cable that came with the phone.

Hi,

Thank you for confirming. I would suggest you restart the phone and check. See if that helps. If you still facing the same please enable the Developer mode>>Tap on USB debugging>>While connecting with USB>>Change once into Charging then change back into MTP. I hope that helps and let me know how it goes.

To enable developer options:

  1. Go to Settings > About phone > Build number
  2. Tap Build number seven times. After the first few taps, you should see the steps counting down until you unlock the developer options. Once activated, you will see a message that reads, “You are now a developer!”
  3. Go back to Settings, where you’ll find a Developer options entry in the menu

Thanks

Sunitha

Thanks for the response. I did reboot and restart the phone, multiple times.

Not familiar with Developer mode, and need some clarification of your suggestion.

- Connect the phone to PC and change to MTP before or after enable Developer mode?

- After Developer mode is enabled, will (should) the folders be shown?

- After Developer mode is enabled, is "USB debugging" one of the Developer options?

- How will "USB debugging" solve my problem?

Hi,

Sorry for the confusion. I would suggest you enable the developer mode, go to settings>>Developer options>>Enable the USB debugging and check if the folders are visible or not. Make sure that the File Transfer(FTP) option is enabled. If you still face the same, change the USB connection preference once into Charging then change back into MTP and check. I hope that helps!

Thanks

Sunitha
