Bump.

Can someone give a release date for Oreo? Im inclined to send my phone back in the return window if this isnt clarified.

no one has a release date. some will guess, but those guesses have no evidence behind them. it could be many more weeks or months. no one here knows, and mototola does not provide dates.

The customers are responsible of this. So last friday i returned my Moto G5 plus anf ordered a new one. When  the customers learn how to punish this kinda things the companies learn how to do propely ones.

Re: Android oreo 8.0 update or 8.1 update for Moto g5 series?

@sdzshn3:

#Moto gives only one major update to G series.

And then what happens?  Do further updates have to be paid for, or are we expected to buy a new phone?

(Pardon my not knowing -- I'm new to Motorola.)

I mean that we will get Android Oreo update and it is the major update. So we won't get any major updates more than one.

But, after Oreo we will still get security patch updates for about a year.

We don't need to pay for anything.

Thanks SZ.  Yes, I understood that from what you posted, but I'm not sure you understood what I was asking.

That "1 major update plus security patches maybe" doesn't really cover what I consider is the expected functional lifespan of the phone.  So my question was what options, if any, Motorola/Lenovo makes available.

If I understood your question right,

If you consider it as not expected functional lifespan, there are no more official options but, (this may violate t&c of forums) you can install custom ROMs to continue to stay updated. Note that doing so will void your warranty. Or you will have to buy new phone.

You will get November security patch update in next few days. But no has answer about Oreo launch date.

Because, dates should provided only by Moto but, Moto doesn't provide release dates. Any other talks are just assumptions.

All we can do is just wait.

Tentative expected date is within February.(this is just my expectation).

Re: Moto G5 plus Android Oreo update!

I don't think that Lenovo is planning to Update moto G5+ until Mar'18. till date, they hadn't started any tasers regarding the update.

Your opinion on what the lifespan of the phone is doesn't really matter. Only Lenovo/Motorola determine that.
The industry generally considers 2 years as the life of a phone.

They have stated security patches for around 2 yrs, which is pretty standard. And they have stated one major update, again pretty standard. Some devices get 2 (usually high end / flagship phones), some get none. There are even phones that never even got a security update.

Just because I'm still using devices from 2012 and 2013 doesn't mean that's the OEM's support life.
