I have downloaded the POTTER_NPN25.137-92_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip. Seems to be for the 1683, I have the 1687.

Or would it be best to keep waiting until this arrives OTA?

Have to wait for the correct release for your device.

If you force the install of the wrong uodate it could brick your phone.
If it it worked, you'd be on the wrong release and not get correct updates later.

Will the Prime Exclusive Moto G5 Plus Phone from Amazon receive the Oreo update?

2017-12-26, 19:30 PM

I have two Prime Exclusive Moto G5 Plus Phones from Amazon.  I have paid to remove the adds from one of the two phones.  Will either receive the Oreo Update?  Will the update come from Google, Lenovo/Motorola, Amazon, or the carrier (T-Mobile)?  Should I be upset if it doesn't and who should I be upset with (other than myself)?

The people at Android Police announced that the Android 8.0 Oreo update is now (22 Dec 2017) available for Moto X4.  However, AndroidAuthority.com pointed out that the Android 8.0 Oreo update that just rolled out is not for Prime Exclusive Moto X4 from Amazon.

The following two forum threads indicate that there is no legitimate way to bootunlock a phone bought through Amazon Prime Exclusive Phones.  For about 50 USD, an owner may pay to remove the advertisements, but the phone will continue to be a bootlocked phone.  This only affects Prime Exclusive Phones from Amazon.

1) Is there anyway to unlock my Moto G5 Plus from Amazon?

2) Moto G5 Plus Formerly Subsidized Bootloader Unlock

Thanks, Mike

64bit upgrade is definitely required. The chipset is fully compatible, and according to lastest news from google, playstore is going to push developers to support 64bit....

64 but definitely yields better performance.

So moto please provide it for moto g5 plus... It's too important for the users.

Re: Android 8(Oreo) Update for moto g5 plus

2017-12-29, 15:20 PM

Unlocked G5 Plus bought from Best Buy w/AT&T as 'carrier' (actually through 'Straight Talk' pay as you go so I can pick between the 'big 3'). Now my 'service provider' has assured me that they have no influence on OS or security updates for this phone. That puts this squarely back on Lenovo's shoulders and eliminates many of the excuses given by them that 'it depends on your carrier'. Do I believe them? More than I believe Lenovo/Motorola because at least my provider has been providing me with the services 'promised' for my money, UNLIKE Lenovo. I didn't just grab the first phone I saw when deciding to set out and get a 'new' one. I did my due dilligence. As other phone manufacturers I was looking at WERE COMPLETELY UP FRONT ABOUT OS/SECURITY UPDATES stating that there would really be no support 'after the fact' BUT Lenovo was 'quick' to PROMISE SAID UPDATES... which is what influenced my final decision to buy this product. I'm posting this HERE so that others who may be in a similar situation as myself can run far, far away from Lenovo/Motorola phones because guess what... THEY WILL LIE JUST TO SELL THEIR GARBAGE. Telling consumers one thing and then doing the complete opposite is nothing less than shady business tactics. Reviews and ratings are EVERYWHERE and when one of the 'features' of the G5 Plus is that the manufacturer SAYS IT WILL GET OS UPDATE touted then it very well better get implemented. What, are we 'maybe' going to get Oreo once 5 'newer' OS versions roll out? Stay away from Lenovo/Motorola products until they decide to be HONEST and fairly represent their products and what they will/will not provide 'after the fact'. Even if they 'say' they are going to do something it is clear that they just put it out there for 'positive marketing' and in fact don't have plans of supporting a thing once it leaves the plant.

I know moto confirmed oreo for moto g5 plus but when? Atleast they should provide update first to moto g5 plus as it did not get the 7.1.1 due update and running on 1 year old os so they should provide the update first to g5 plus in the G series.

I agree with that.

The moto g5, and mostly the g5 plus is pretty much the best budget phone this year, even more than the G5s because it just came out..

I know they would have a lot of good reviews if they had updated the software to 7.1.1.. at least now provide us with oreo.. maybe not first, but please not the last..

January or february at least.. but if we receive it in march i will be dissapointed, as i love Motorola and all it's devices.. i mean samsung, the slowest one pushing the updates, is almost done with the update..

Also.. what about 8.1.. are we going to receive it at all? Motorola only gives 1 major update per device.. but 8.1 is a minor update.. guess we will get it :/
