My personal opinion is that the g5 will never see Oreo. I'm sorry but it does not take more than a year to test and release Android. It's kinda sad to see the founder of the cell phone (Motorola) put us in this situation cause they decided to sell out to a company ( Lenovo) that knows nothing about phones or Android.

Yes, you are correct. It doesn't take more than a year to test and release. But, still you'll see Oreo. Cause it's 8.1 but not 8.0

You forget that it's been only 7 or 8 months after releasing of Oreo 8.1

Best Regards, Syed Zeeshan.

Agreed. But even 7 or 8 months is really slow for Motorola. I mean if you think about it the g5 plus which is running a 625 processor. Now you think that would mean the next phone would offer a better upgrade yet the g6 is actually a down grade. So what I'm seeing is a downfall on Motorola's part. Very slow upgrades and new phones that are not as good as the old ones. Honestly I think Motorola is a failing company and has been since Google sold them to Lenovo, which is predominantly a laptop/computer company. I think if Lenovo had let Motorola do there thing then there wouldn't be any issues.

I contacted Moto India Live Chat and enquired about Oreo for Moto G5 Plus. The Customer Executive said only the G5S Plus is currently undergoing Soak Tests. A day or two after that I received a call from Motorola Tech Team and he said the G5 series oreo work is going on. He mentioned that only the G5S Plus has been undergoing soak test. If the soak test is success, they will implement it to other 3 devices:Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5S (official release) or roll out a small soak test and then official release. Hope everything goes well and expecting Oreo release for all Moto G5 Series after completion of the ongoing soak test.

From day 1, we were promised an update to Oreo, when available. From that day it was all talk and no show.

Then 8.1 was released. Now they promise us that we will get oreo 8.1 - they just needs the last tests.

I do not remember where I saw, that july was the month we would get 8.1, but......

Now someone said november was a good month.

I have made my decision: I will buy a Nokia 8 128 july 31, and sell this phone.

Do not get it wrong. The phone has excellent specs, and could be an excellent one too.

It has better specs than xiaomei a1.

If only it had an 64 bit OS, and not an 32 bit one.

Nokia is a great option. All the new nokias will be running Android p in August. Heck even the phone I switched to will have the official Android p 9.0 and they are already talking about getting Android q ready next year. This is insane it takes so long for stock Android to get tested but Nokia , essential and many Chinese companies already getting current firmware. But Moto won't enable project trebel while my phone launched with 7.1.1 so it's not the excuse it needs to launch with Android 8.0 to be part of this. Moto is using updates to manipulate the market and force the buy a new handser to get updates model.
