Post at comment section of AndroidPolice, one of the biggest sites about , obviously, Android, at an article talking about the company ( https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/08/09/moto-face-unlock-app-hits-play-store/ )

"Avoid any Motorola phone as a plague, unless you don't want updates. Worse: you will be ignored about such subject by any employee or will receive false answers.

Case in point: Moto G5 and G5 Plus, 15 months old, being promised Oreo update since its debut till now haven't seen the update. Launched with 7.0 and still at 7.0 . So now, when Pie 9.0 was already released the Moto G5 and G5 Plus are 2 generations behind. A phone which started being sold March of last year. When asked about such advertising present at publicity material Motorola gave dozen of misleading and false answers.

The salt: Moto G5 S and Moto G5 S Plus , released FIVE months after, with 7.1 already received 8.1 . In other words: a phone just 6 months younger, released with a newer system (7.1 versus 7.0 ) and received the update before the original G5... It is like you going to a restaurant and sit at the floor while other person received a chair and when an armchair is available it is given to the person already sit.

Just because they call themselves "Android Authority," doesn't mean they are THE authority on Android.  Like everyone else, they've been known to be wrong.

Pie is only available to Pixel devices at this time.

These guys are providing entertainment to the Moto G dev team as they are just taking things slow and steady, like, imagine water droplets falling a height of 2 metres slowed down to 1/5000 th of a second. Pure joy. There is nothing more remotely satisfying than being two steps behind as long as company makes profit. Just sayin!

To not lose the entrataining theme, we could use the follow metaphor: we could say Motorola is a circus, most users are the public, which were atracted with the promisse of a great show with lions... During the spetacle the managers  threw inside the arena a cat and informed through the sound system that the lion wasn't there today but would be in a couple of days and woud be available to be watched, requiring only a new ticket. When the crowd got upset, the circus director demanded the clown laying around not doing anything beside rooming the place to entretain the public... He failed hard.

As of a few days ago, Pixel stood alone in its access to Pie.

Really very slow speed of Motorola OS Upgrades. Moto G5 Plus released in March 2017 is currently undergoing Oreo 8.1 Soak test whereas Asus Zenfone 3 released in August 2016 (2 Year old device, released with Marshmallow 6) was updated to Oreo 8.1 few days back. Both runs on same SOC MSM8953 625. Asus even has to tone their ZenUI too for Oreo release to its handset. I am quite suprised to see Motorola who use Stock roms taking more time than companies like Asus.

Clearly Software Develoment Team has to think abou it. The Moto G5S Plus Soak test started months back. I think Moto Team is more focused on Developing ROMs for upcoming phones and the recently launched ones. Really you need to start looking to existing devices else your previous customers would turn down to your devices in future.

I think, that the delay is in Fact because of Moto G5+ runs 32 bit Android (even G6 does so), and Oreo only exists as 64 Bit OS. So Motorola had to recompile a special 32 bit OS for their Products.

I think Asus rolled out the 32bit oreo 8.1 for its Zenfone 3 range. Even it released Oreo 8.1 for its Snapdragon 430 chipset device. Motorola keep in mind they gave 2 OS upgrades to its customers. From Marshmallow to Oreo 8.1 and even faster than companies like Motorola.

Even if Asus rolled  64bit (not sure, most probably it has to be 32bit) Oreo8.1 it's great achievement as they did their maximum to utilise a 64bit processor.
