Re: [OFFICIAL] Android 8(Oreo) Update CONFIRMED!

@ElGuapo315 - is your phone unlocked, or tied to a carrier?

Can you please explain how you updated - i.e. did you factory reset the phone first, and/or after the 8.1 installation?

I have an unlocked Moto G5+ (4gb/64gb) and I'm trying to determine which phones might be more susceptible to issues. Whether it's draining batteries, sd card related, Wifi router related, app related, 3g/4g connection related and/or an update improperly installed.

It would be great to either:
(1) Roll back an update
(2)Re-install an update if the results didn't go as planned.

Thus far, I'm holding off on updating to 8.1 - there is just too much inconsistency in whether or not someone may experience problems.

I'm an unlocked Amazon 4/64 on Cricket. No FDR, nothing special. Just checked for updates and it was there. My friend with the exact setup got his Saturday.

@Marc999

I have an unlocked g5+ (same specs as yours). My carrier is Metro by TMobile (formerly MetroPCS). I just took the OTA update as is - meaning I didn't do a reset or anything like that - and haven't had any issues with my phone (battery, wifi, etc.). The only thing I have noticed is that the fingerprint sensor doesn't seem as sensitive as it was under Android 7.0. Other than that, it's working just as well as before.

@xnerfherderx

That's reassuring.

I'm on Telus network in Ontario,Canada - I'm wondering if having an unlocked phone has less of a chance of borking the update.

If your fingerprint sensor still works, then that's not terrible. Maybe retraining your finger prints would help?

You've had no 4g(LTE) connection issues?
How about phone calls - can you hear and be heard by the other person?

@Marc999

No, I haven't had any calling issues post-update. Actually, my wifi calling is working more consistently now than before the update.

Sounds like it failed a check before applying the update.
The update process checks the system to make sure you have a vaild install before it changes anything.

If all you changed was recovery (never rooted or modified /system) it's not hard to restore that.

Altenatively, you can find a TWRP flashable version of the update.
So no, you are not stuck.

after the update I have noticed my phone's battery is draining drastically even it is not working for a whole day, after I charge to 100% in the night it got drained till 20% by the middle of the day then again I have to go for charging. I think this is oero issue because before Oreo my phone was working absolutely fine and battery was way better.

Most likely you have an app that's not playing well with Oreo.

Check battery stats and see what's using your battery.

Try uninstalling/reinstalling apps that are using a lot.
Try a factory reset and slowly ading back apps you actually use.
Get rid of old cruft that could be causing problems.

FWIW, it happens with all phone makers and major updates.

Okay, so I got the notification but the problem is, I've unlocked my bootloader and installed TWRP. I regret this entirely, I don't know why I even did it to begin with, but I tried to install it and it said "error" anfter a while. I got so scared that my device bricked, but I held the power button and it booted on like normal. I looked up causes for that and one of them was play services being out of date and bad signal. I had been getting notifications that play services kept "stopping" so I uninstalled all updates And installed an APK of the latest version instead of going to the play store and even tho it WAS the latest version of play services and everything worked, I still kept getting messages saying it was out of date. I also was using the spotty school WiFi at the time. Since I restarted it and got home, I uninstalled all updates to play services and updated via the play store and no longer get those notifications, I also am using my good WiFi at home now. Could those have been the reason my device got an error when trying to install the update? Or is it definitely my custom recovery? Also if I wanted to try again for the heck of it, could I brick my device by installing an OTA and then in the middle of it getting an "error"? I really wish I just had everything back to stock, I understand the benefits, but I'm such a noob illI probably never use them. Am I really stuck on nougat forever now? From what I understand it's not an easy process to get the stock recover back and relocking the bootloader, I'd probably brick my device trying. Help please!!

This forum is only for stock devices - we can't help if you installed TWRP. I suggest you go to modding forums and get assistance there.

And yes, if you take an OTA update and have modded, you can possibly brick your phone.

I would not take an OTA unless back to stock. Keep in mind that even when stock, some users that made previous changes have bricked their phones when taking an OTA - usually they downgraded OS, but bootloader version doesn't downgrade.

Anyway, if you have questions regarding a modded phone, they must go in the developer forum here. But XDA and other hacker forums tend to be more active.

Not a whole lot of activity on here lately.  Could that mean we all have Orea now?
