Whatsapp doesn't work all the time.

2017-11-26, 14:01 PM

I have a Moto G5 for over two weeks and I installed but a few applications. WhatsApp between them. I have it customised with my own ringtones for notifications and calls. But most of the times it doesn't ring when I get a message, and I end up replying when I take my phone by chance, sometimes hours later. It doesn't show a badge for unread messages either. I have all the permissions alright according to another thread on the same issue in this forum, and I even uninstalled and installed it again, to no avail.

What else can I do? Should I regret changing my old Samsung by a Moto? I had never had this problem before.

Please help! I use WhatsApp a lot.

Hi Cerridwen33,

Let's determine why there are no notifications even if you already customized your ringtone. By the way, does this happen to normal calls or to any other calling app too? Have you adjusted the Volume of  your phone? Did you check if the Notifications are set on your phone Settings?

Here are something you need to check:

- Make sure that WhatsApp notifications are not muted in WhatsApp settings and in each chat

  • Open WhatsApp, tap More  > settings > notifications and make sure that message and group notifications are set to On.
  • Open the chat you wish to receive notifications from > More  > group info or info and make sure the chat is not muted

-If the Battery Saver is enabled, notifications will not be delivered to conserve the battery. Make sure the Battery Saver mode is turned off under Windows Phone Settings > system > battery saver.

-Ensure WhatsApp is pinned to Start. That way, if you miss a notification, you can still see an unread message count on the live tile.

- Check Settings>Notification>Wattsapp> then enable/disbale the Settings you needed from there.

All the WhatsApp settings are ok. I have been checking if it worked after contacting WhatsApp and I did what they asked me, about setting the permissions on my device. It seemed to be working ok till I got a message past 7pm that didn't sound. It seems to be happening more in the evening even if this doesn't make any sense. By the way I read in another thread in this forum that Motorola doesn't support badge count except through third party apps. WhatsApp is my only app that should send notifications. I don't use any other for communication. I don't even have Facebook in my device...

Any ideas?

So, it only happened on message/person especially during the night?

Not 100% sure about a particular person but I am sure it happens more often in the evening. I am clueless.

Can you please check your Settings if your phone is in Do Not Disturb mode? Please see here on how to disable it.

I only turn on Do not disturb at night. Priority only settings I had never tried. To receive all sounds it's not clear to me if I have to have them off or on. Trying it now. Thanks for your help.
